Spontaneous phase change?

Ok, this has me scratching my head and doubting my recollection of events...

About a year ago, I slapped a JB in my G&L Comanche's bridge and wired it up with the default series wiring: black to hot, green to ground and red/white soldered together. This was the correct wiring and I used this setup for over a year. The bridge and middle pickups together was a pretty thick sound but it was usable.

I recently replaced the JB with a Breed and the default Dimarzio series wiring had the bridge pickup out of phase with the middle and neck pickups. The default wiring was red to hot, green to ground and black/white soldered together. The bridge and middle pickups together produced a horribly thin and unusable tone. A quick switch of the red and green wires solved this problem.

I didn't care much for the Breed in this guitar so after a couple of weeks I reinstalled the JB. I wired it up the same (black to hot, green to ground) but the JB is now out of phase with the middle and neck pickups. WEIRD!!! I'll be swapping the hot and ground later this week when I get the time.

I have not touched any other wires in the guitar at any time during these pickup replacement. With both the JB and Breed, I did simple series install without any series/parallel or split switching. I have even taken notes during both installs and reviewed them to make sure I wasn't crazy. It's not my ears because the out-of-phase sound is instantly recognizable and I don't care for it at all. I suppose it's possible that I'm not remembering the initial JB wiring correctly, but I'm fairly certain my notes and recollection are accurate.

Has anyone else experienced something similar?
