Squier Deluxe Strats...any good?

Has anyone here played one of these Squier Deluxe Strats?

I'm really wanting a new guitar. Since my Cort is basically in pieces right now, I am really wanting another Strat to fill the void. I've been reading around and from what it sounds like, some of the "high end" Squiers seem to be a much better value for the money compared to the "low end" MIM Fenders.

Any thoughts or comments on the Squier Deluxe series?

Re: Squier Deluxe Strats...any good?

I don't own a MIM, so I can't compare them, but my Squier Deluxe is excellent. It needed a bit of a setup, and I recently changed pickups, but I have no complaints. Its a little darker than other Strats I've played, but it certainly sounds "Stratty" despite the basswood body. For the price I'd say they are amazing.

i haven't tried the Deluxe series, but the Classic Vibe and Vintage Modifed are comparable to MIM Fenders, if not better.

Thanks for the info! Needing a setup is not a big deal for me, most guitars need them anyway. How were the original pickups?

I use mine for stones stuff tuned to an open G, Sounds really nice for that on a clean amp.

No problem! The original pickups sounded pretty good, much better than my Affinity series Strat's original pickups. I'm just a wuss when it comes to hum, so I put some Dimrzio noiseless stacks in there.

Just to let you know, my deluxe has a one piece flame maple neck. I'm not sure if they're all like that. I personally like it, but some are opposed to figured maple necks.

Re: Squier Deluxe Strats...any good?

I have a standard that is great. Bought it with modding in mind. So far not a thing I want to change. The only thing that bothers me a little bit is that big old CBS size headstock but the frets are good, right on intonation and low action. So I'm getting over it. I could only imagine the Deluxe would be even better.

Re: Squier Deluxe Strats...any good?

I don't have one, but I do have a Squier '51 (Vintage Modified series, as you've heard).

I replaced the bridge and nut, put about 2 hours into filing odd fret ends and rolling the board oh-so-slightly with masking tape and a flat blade, and it plays better than my MIA Stratocaster now. Seriously.

I know it seems odd to put time into a brand new guitar, but I think of it this way:

What's the difference in price between low and high models most attributable to?

2 things: hardware and skilled American labor.

I can replace all the hardware for $50 with great stuff. GFS is great for this.

Skilled American labor? Me, baby, me. I have some experience with setups --- I'm no luthier, but I can set up any guitar you put in front of me. There's your skilled American labor.

So now we've got premium parts and skilled American labor on the guitar.

How different is that from the "MIA" we all laud so highly?

P.S. I have $275 in a Squier where everything on it (including pickups, most of the cost) was handpicked for quality by me, and set up to perfection. You oughta play it, it'll make you say wow out loud.
