Oooops, I did it again! After buying a guitar I didn't need a few weeks ago, I made the decision to stop by the pawn shop.... just to look. Well, I found a Silvertone acoustic/electric marked at $40. I offered $30 and got it. I already cleaned, re-strung, set up, etc. I've bought 5-6 other Silvertone acoustics for cheap and all of them have played well (after set up) and had tone that exceeded what they are. This one is no different. Rich, deep tone and not a bad guitar at all. Anyway, I'll stick a $100 price tag on it, put it in out little antique booth and it will be gone in a day or so.
That brings me to the post title. Much like my last excursion, as I was wrapping up the sale, I spotted a cool looking strat with dual buckers. Closer inspection revealed a Squire strat with what looks like a mahogany body, Duncan designed buckers, rosewood neck. Looked mint, needs new strings and a set up real bad. Marked at $150.00 with case, offered $100.00 and it was accepted.
Unfortunately, after spending $30 on the Silver, I had $15.00 in my pocket. "No worries" sez the great fella who helped me, 'put it on layaway.' So, gave him $10 and will go back this weekend and get it. Not sure if it's even worth what I paid, (as I plan on flipping it) but man, even in it's poor set up shape, it seemed like a great, lightweight guitar.
If it doesn't sell, or I made a bad purchase, I could keep it at church to use worship and not have to worry about bringing my gear each Sunday. If it did get nicked, (not likely) I would not worry about it. These are the things I tell myself to justify buying (another!, sorry Honey!) guitar. I can't help myself. When I come upon a guitar that grabs me and is cheap enough where I can at least double my money, (or have a great guitar to give to a deserving person) I can't leave it alone until I have it. Now, I'm not talking collectible/vintage/hi-end instruments....a few hundred dollars is my max and most are in the $30 to $50 range..... something I can fix up and make playable to sell in the $100 to $200 range (seems to be the magic # at the antique store) works best.
I'll try to load a pic from reverb of a similar looking Squire. So... anyone have one? Had one? Played one? If so, what do you think? I'll post my thoughts after it's in my hands, cleansed, set up and a few hours of ripping. Also, how are the Duncan Designed pickups?
Can't seem to get the Pic to load. Did some checking and it looks to be a 2005 Squier Standard Series Satin Trans Crimson Double Fat HH Stratocaster
