SSL-4 with triangular flatwork?

Hi there.
I've got my hands on the kinda old and weary pickup, single-coil with 1/4" rods, forbon triangular flatwork, black plastic cover, b&w PVC wires, no label and 14.3K resistance. Previous owner states that this is the old SD singlecoil, and QP almost fit , except for flatwork. Also i've found very similar QP on Reverb, marked as vintage, but without cover. I've installed it in my Dinky, neck position, pickup sounds full and thick, loud as bridge humbucker, gonna find another one to the middle now :D

Can I suppose that years ago SD changed SSL-4 flatwork from triangular to oval or I'm confusing it with something else like old Schecter or Rio Grande?

Re: SSL-4 with triangular flatwork?

That more than likely is not a QP. I have never seen a QP with a cover and it looks like the poles are staggered too. There have been a number of different pickups with 1/4 poles from Schaller, Schechter and Rio Grande.

Re: SSL-4 with triangular flatwork?

Discharged, yep, thank you, it's another possibility, especially if rodes in my pickup were shifted (2nd one is definitely shifted downwards, as you can see from the second pic).

idsnowdog, old Schecter F500T had coiltap, copper shielding and different wire colors, untapped version was 12K, not 14. Muy Grande Singlecoil is 8K. Haven't find any details about old Schaller S6 with large rods yet, still searching for specs.

Re: SSL-4 with triangular flatwork?

The QP has never had a cover. They'll do different color tops now besides black (cream and white) but no actual covers.20180228_124513.jpg

Re: SSL-4 with triangular flatwork?

I have the QP flat and I haven't see a QP staggered in person before but I don't think they have covers?

Re: SSL-4 with triangular flatwork?

It’s a QP staggered. You can tell the cover is home made, and the pickup’s top flatwork has been shaved down to accommodate a cover.

Really? I thought QP's come without covers because wire wouldn't fit under one...

When did they come with triangular base?

Re: SSL-4 with triangular flatwork?

Indeed, cover sits very tight on this pickup, almost tearing duct tape. I think it could be bought separately and adapted by one of the previous owners. Thing that is really confusing me is the triangular flatwork, I haven't found any valid information about it.
Anyway, there are at least 3 more similar QPs on reverb in addtion to listed in my first post:

Btw, I've met few topics here minding about vintage SD catalog scans, but all links are dead. Maybe someone saved it and can share again, please?

Re: SSL-4 with triangular flatwork?

Hmm, interesting. I don't remember them being triangular, but it's possible the original versions did then. I believe they were called Quarter Pounders at first and then changed to Quarter Pound somewhere along the way.
