I got today my new Ssl5 pick up, i want to replace it on my blade texas standard start in the bridge position. Well i know the wiring and all that but i don't know how i put the pick opposite of strings, i mean those 6 poles wich one belongs to wich string, there 3 higher poles and 3 lower poles. Other question is, i asume this pick up has a lot more output than my other two original pick ups, how is the best way to balance this outputs, adjusting the height of my new ssl5? Any other tipp or suggestions are welcome, tmx in forward for your replys.

Re: SSL5 bridge pls help!

The standard way to put the ssl5 is the low pole goes under the b string. However you can put it the other way for a different sound if you want. The 2 tricks to setting the pickup height is you adjust the gross heights so that each pickup sounds the same volume. Then you can fine tune each side of the individual pickups to adjust the bass and treble to your liking. Raising the side under the bass strings will increase bass, raising the side under the treble string will increase treble etc.

Re: SSL5 bridge pls help!

Typically the complaint with staggered poles is the G string being overly loud or warbly to get the 2 high strings to decent volume. As said above you can reverse the pickup to better balance this out - something you can't do with the traditional triangle base in many cases.

Re: SSL5 bridge pls help!

the wires come out of the side closest to the bridge.
Adjust the heights of all the pickups to get a volume balance.

Believe me or not, but on my pic up one wire is on left side closer let say to bridge, and the other wire on the right side closer to the neck, still confused.

Re: SSL5 bridge pls help!

Its not really that much of a big deal really. Either way around will work just fine......at most you might get a 1-2% difference in the string balance as a result. Its not like the universe will suddenly collapse if its the other way, nor are you permanently welding it in place with no chance of reversal. All you're doing effectively is what Hendrix did when he flipped a RH guitar to play lefty.
