SSL5 Pairings?

I've noticed that most people pair the ssl5 bridge with ssl1 neck & middle. I'm leaning that way as well, but was wondering if there are other common pairings..I'm looking to upgrade a Squire strat as a project, and this will be my only (true) single coil guitar..Looking to do blues to mid level rock music with it. I have a ton of pedals, and Fender and Marshall amps..Are the surfers good with the SSL5? Give me some ideas.

Re: SSL5 Pairings?

go for ssl-1s. simple is always good and it is a proven formula.
As far as ideas go....choosing to get two regular ssl-1s (ie not employing rwrp in the middle) is cool. It makes the knotch positions sound like a true blend between the pickups without the hollowing out of the sound that you get when they cancel each other. A bit noisier, yeah, but no noisier than each pickup on their own.

Re: SSL5 Pairings?

Alnico II pro in the neck of my strat with the SSL5 bridge. Love that combination. I have a blend pot to blend in the neck pickup with the bridge and wouldn't even think about taking the time to try another pickup combination because I like it that much.
Would I think about changing my middle pickup? Yes absolutely, maybe an SSL1...
