SSS Pups

Hey guys.

I'm looking at getting some kind of Strat. Right now, a Warmoth build is what I'm thinking.

Swamp Ash body, no top, Maple/Maple neck, pick guard. Not sure about the bridge, input there would help too. Fender, Wilkinson. no Floyd. Kahler? No idea...

What pickups would you recommend? Hum-cancelling, no Hot Rails or Cool rails, no little 59, JB jr....

I want that Strat tone, especially in the neck, hum-cancelling in all 5 positions.. The bridge pickup can be sort of hot but stacked with as much single coil tone as possible.

Thanks!

Re: SSS Pups

classic stack + neck and middle with a custom stack + bridge. basically the hum cancelling version of the ssl2/ssl2/ssl6 setup.

Agreed. That combo gives you A very versatile Strat that sounds like a Strat, but can rawk when you feel like it. Not the best for Maiden though :/

Re: SSS Pups

Yeah, that would have been the combo I'd choose. The Classic Stacks are wonderful in the neck & middle. They have tons of chime and for me, it is hard to go back to regular singles as the Stacks are so quiet.

Re: SSS Pups

For an Ash Strat SSS I think a Fender Fat 50s Neck and Middle pickup are the best option out there for the "Strat Tone". I have them in my Ash Strat and am waiting for a Seymour Duncan Custom Shop pickup for a more full bridge pickup as the Fender Fat 50 bridge is a bit thin at times. Just my $0.02 :)

Re: SSS Pups

annnnd those arent humcancelling ;)

i love the surfers for vintage strat tone. im waiting on a trio of antiquity II jaguar bridge pups to put in a strat that currently has surfers. its got a flat radius so the flat poles of the jag pup should work out suaeet. the classic stack + is as close as ive found to a real strat tone but humcancelling. using the neck version in all three spots is about as close to vintage strat as you can get with no hum.

Ooops lol just read the humcancelling lol

The OP basically said no to every option I would have given lol I will defer to the others...and still stick with my recommendation even though they are not humcanceling ;)

Thanks for the input! I'm sure I'll be getting more guitars. :)

Re: SSS Pups

For the bridge, I really like the latest Fender 2-post with stamped saddles. Vintage tone from the stamped saddles and a little easier/smoother trem usage/setup than 6 screw IMO.

The pickup plan above sounds good!

That is so true, I have the classic stack plus and they are very good pickups.
