Stack Pick-up Installations in Jackson SL1 - ??

Hi,

I know that my Jackson originally came with Classic Stacks in the neck and middle position. My SL1 now has two DiMarzio's that I would like to replace with the following:

STK-S4m - Classic Stack Plus (middle)
STK-S7 - Vintage Hot Stack Plus (neck)

I bought these pick-ups from Guitar Center and it seems they may not fit properly (they are intended for pick-guard installs).

Is there anything I need to do to the pickups to properly direct mount them in my Jackson?

Please advise and thank you!!

DP

PS - recently replaced the Tone Zone with a Custom Custom - wow, what an amazing pickup!!!!

Your problem is they dont fit the rout? Newer jacksons dont have the issue but ones from the early to mid 90's do. If this is the case and im not sure since you werent 100% clear contact SD customer support and ask if you can exchange the pups you bought for ones without the flat work.

Thanks Edgecrusher for responding. SD needs people like you to work for them.

Yes, the problem is that it simply doesn't fit in the route. My Jackson is a 2004. Can you please tell me what you mean by "ones without the flat work"?

Here is what's really disappointing. I've always been a DiMarzio user and have just gotten turned on to SD. I have called their support several times for pickup help and left messages and no one has ever returned the call. i pleaded yesterday to speak with someone and finally got a hold of a support tech. He was unhelpful and had an attitude. He said he should be talking to my tech (who has been a tech for 30 years and is really good).

My tech told me the guy was really ignorant to him as well. Basically, SD said these are their smallest footprint pickups and if it doesn't fit there is nothing they can do.

Now I'm hearing from you that I should be able to call SD and exchange them for ones without the flat work? Why wouldn't their support person tell this to me and my tech? If I call, will someone even answer the phone or return a call?

Never had this issue with the DiMarzio techs. They pick up the phone, take the time to answer questions and give great advise.

The rout in the Jackson is 83.61 mm and the SD stacked pickup is ~ 84 mm.

The SD pups are 3.31" which equates to 84.074 mm. The DiMarzio's are 3.26" = 82.804 mm. This explains why the SD doesn't fit in the rout.

What are my options? Not really interested in routing out some of the wood.

Thanks.

You have at least three options, if you're intent on sticking with the Duncans:
1. Dig out some of the wood below the surface of the guitar in the back of the cavities, so it's not as noticeable.
2. Order a set of Custom Shop Classic Stacks with more of a Hot/Cool Rails or Lil/Jr formatting so you don't have the "vintage style" tab coming off the pickups.
3. Try shaving 1mm off the tabs of the pickups, without damaging the wires that are attached to the tabs.

Thank you for the reply. I looked on the SD website. Can you please confirm these are the pickups you are speaking about? SD does not show the dimensions on these??

Also, could you please tell me what the difference is between these two? Not sure what is meant by "Even Stagger Poles"
