Stacked mounting rings: how to make it work on the neck

On the birdge pikcup, it seems obvious enough. Put a thin metal flat on top of the normal thick, curved bottom ring. But on the neck pickup, I'm not sure there's enough room there to put something on top of the existing ring. Would I need to just replace the ring with a metal one, thus losing the dual-tone look for that pup or do you think I could fit a flat on top? I'm nervous to order the parts until I'm fairly sure they'll work.

If it won't fit, your only option is to find a cylindrical object that has the same contour as the bottom of the ring, cover it with a piece of sandpaper, and rub the bottomside of the ring over it till it's thinner. Maybe put a phone book over something to give it the proper radius, add sandpaper, and go to work.

Depending on where you are gonna get those rings, the metal ones are only like 6 or 7 dollars a piece PLUS, they make you place a minimum order of 25.00, at least Warmoth does and I beleive that is where that pic is from isn't it?

I also know that thye have the plasic neck rings that are real thin to begin with. Hope this helps.

And honestly, even if you use only the chrome neck pickup ring, it wouldn't mess up the look, since nobody would ever notice that plastic layer under the chrome neck ring.
