stainless steal frets

My Parker has stainless steel frets and I think they're awesome. The frets are so smooth they feel like you're playing on glass. They also have the huge advantage of basically never wearing down, so you'll never need a fret dress or a refret.

I have the same experience with my necks from Warmoth. Took advice of great guitar player friend of mine and the necks are really nice and the SS feel great. Only time will tell....but seem worth it to me.

Re: stainless steal frets

I have one Indian Rosewood Warmoth neck with Stainless Steel frets and one Warmoth Wenge neck with a Ziricote fretboard that has gold frets.

I love the SS frets for rock, blues and anything else I play with insane bends. I do not find the frets to be too bright at all and that's with Alnico II Pros. I like these frets, they do feel smooth like glass and they sound articulate! I like the idea of having frets that won't wear!

The gold frets? They are a little warmer in tone, great for jazz at the same time but who knows, maybe it's the chambered korina body. I did have the neck on a MIM Strat years ago and it sounded great there too, but not as jazzy, more vintage. They wear nice and slow and kind of have a real vintage feel to them, they don't really look gold from a distance but when you get close you can see the gold.

IMO, they were both worth it!

Re: stainless steal frets

In my experience - SS is definitely worth it. I can't tell a difference in tone and fret life is generally dramatically longer. Nothing is forever though.

I had one problem recently with Stainless - They are SLICK! Its a good thing I'll adjust to.

I've got one with Gold frets and they're fine (on an Acoustic). If I had to do again, probably would be stainless on that.

Dude! you necro'd a thread from march of 04! This thread has to be amongst the earliest of this incarnation of the forum. I know we've talked about stainless since then.
