Standard order for series wiring?

Is there a convention for order when wiring pickups/coils in series? I can't seem to find any resources on it, I browsed the forums a bit as well and didn't see anything, but it's possible I'm searching up the wrong question or just being silly.

When wired in series, I assume there would be a difference whether you put the inside or outside coil first in a humbucker, whether you put the neck or bridge first in the middle position of a 3-way switch, or pos. 2/4 on a strat, etc. Those all being parallel usually, but I was interested in adding some extra switching and tonal possibilities to my cheap/tinker strat for fun. So I was curious to know if anybody has tried it all and found any trends or preferences.

Thanks in advance.

It doesn't make a difference. There are situations where you'd think it would, but it's all the same no matter which coil goes first in a series connection.

It can make a difference or not*, depending on the parasitic capacitance of the wiring. But as it depends on the coils and wires involved, there's no "convention" about the wiring. Just try and listen...

*No difference in most cases or not enough to be noticed with standard Strat SC's whose hot and ground wires are separate. If the pickups have coaxial cables like SC sized mini-HB or some cheaper SC's, stray capacitance might be a factor to take in account.
