Stephens cutaway neck mounting? Washburn parallelaxes?

How do you guys like this system that Washburn uses? Any pros, cons that users have experienced? Other than the obvious, that it looks funny.

To me, Washburns have long been unjustly underappreciated in the guitar world.. Obviously, they sell guitars, or else they wouldnt still be in biz.. But you just dont hear much about them and yet they often come out with really cool stuff. (Not always, but sometimes) The 90s Grover Jackson era guitars were unbelievably good. And using stuff like the Buzz Feiten system and such. The new Parallelaxe series has many cool designs and top grade features like Stephens cutaway, noiseless springs and big blocks on the trems, Buzz Feiten tuning, evertune (I think its called), etc... I see that some places are already starting to blow some of these models out.. Opinions??

It's great for access, I had a Washburn N6 and N4 with it.

Re: Stephens cutaway neck mounting? Washburn parallelaxes?

I have a Nuno model with it. it's alright. neck heels and neck access aren't a big make-or-break situation for me.

in theory, one would think it takes away some mass. but then again, it seems to provide more wood surface for the neck and body to connect.

as for the Buzz Feiten, I could do without it. for me, it's more of a "vibe" of it sounding a little better. just a personal thing. Washburn reps that were dealing with Nuno when he first went that direction said that he swears by it, so it definitely has an appeal.

Ive owned washburns with the Buzz system and Ive always tried to figure out how it works as I couldnt see anything different. For example, the guitars with the compensated nut or bridge.. But. seems to work well once you set the floyd up to intonate properly. All of them I had with the system had floyds..

Re: Stephens cutaway neck mounting? Washburn parallelaxes?

yes. it's all in how it's intonated.

the Feiten system has a little less space between the nut and the 1st fret. a few of the intonation marks are changed by 1 or 2 cents this way or that, or use a tuner with the Feiten system built in.

maybe I'd like it more if I had more with the system. for now, I have to totally reprogram my gray matter when intonating and tuning that one guitar. lol!

I tried the Trevor Rabin Signature Parallaxe and i was one amazing guitar. It comes stock with a 59 and a JB, and if it had 22 frets, I would have bought it. Looks amazing in person.

I've had multiple Washburns since the late 70's, and they are always good guitars. As a previous poster noted - very underappreciated. They make some great kids guitars, too.
