Stereo Mic setup help

I learned some stuff since my last thread and now have more questions! I'm looking at a mic setup to do some room mic'ing. It will almost always be used for either solo instrument (brass) or instrument and piano. Some stereo mics I've found are the Rode NT4, AudioTechnica AT822/AT825 and the Sony ECM MS957. For matched pairs of mics I have looked at Sennheiser e614, Rode NT5, Studio Projects C4, Marshall MXL 604 and Shure KSM series.

So has anyone got any experience with any of those??

Re: Stereo Mic setup help

the NT-5's are pretty good bang for the buck. i haven't really been disappointed with anything i've mic'd with them so far, although i'll still always want a pair of 414's.

hunt around for a good price on them though, i paid about $250 for a matched pair, and they're in brand new condition. oddly enough, i found that deal on amazon.

Re: Stereo Mic setup help

The NT-4 sounds absolutely gorgeous on an acoustic guitar, and actually does a great job infront of a drumkit as a room mic.

I've also heard them used effectively for small choirs/string quartets, and even vocals.

If you look around on ebay, you can pick up 2 Shure SM81s for about 200 - 250 a piece. I really like the SM81 on anything acoustic that you want uncolored sound for . . .

Re: Stereo Mic setup help

Thanks for the help guys - a couple more things. What preamps have you used with those mics, and also have you heard anything about Core Sound Binaural mics?
Thanks again
