Don't have much time for a detailed post, but I decided to try the Steve's Special in parallel (I have an Ibanez RG470, basswood body, OFR, maple neck and rosewood board).
The results are interesting. I felt that in series, the pickup was subdued, and maybe a bit bassy. The scooped nature was pronounced and bothersome.
Of course, I have absolutely no fear of mids, and even tend to like things a bit bright and middy.
Well, in parallel, I don't notice any real drop in volume, but I do notice more highs, and maybe a bump in the mids as well. The bass seems a bit cleaner/tighter, and pulled back slightly.
The surprise is that, though it still has a very clean (bordering on sterile) tone, it is noticeably warmer/sweeter. I am also noticing harmonics popping out more easily.
I am running the EQ in a frown (B & T about 5, Mids at 7-8)...the tone is excellent, and I can now tolerate the mid-scoop.
Overall, I am very pleased with the change, and intend to keep it for a while.
