Stevie Ray Vaughan tone

I just watched a concert on directv featuring the late Stevie Ray Vaughan. I was wondering what type of pickups was he using on his "White Strat" (on the cover of Texas Flood). The pickups were lipstick style and had a rippin tone that I fell in love with. Anyone know what they are and where can they be purchased or what's the closest thing to them??

that's his guitar Charlie, made by the late Charlie Wirz of Dallas Texas. It had 3 Danelectro lipstick tube pickups. That's mostly where that tone came from. You can also hear that guitar on Tin Pan Alley, Life Without You, and Riveria Paradise.

If you opt to get them, make sure you get the "Strat Sized" models.

The ones he actually used are the full size versions and they are longer than standard strat single coils and require routering of the guitar body and a special pickguard to fit into a strat.

The Strat size fit without modification. But some people complain about a drop off on the low and high E strings because they go outside of the magnetic field.

So the Strat versions are bit of a compromise, but you don't need to hack your Strat and hunt down a custom pickguard.

If you get them. I would like to know what you think once you get them set up and running
