Stew Mac Nut Graphite Question

I'm looking at the graphite nuts from the stew mac website. They have graphite nuts that are pre slotted. There arent any photos really that tell me what I want to know, which is are they basically ready to install with maybe a few adjustments, or are they just semi cut for string spacing and you have to do the rest?

I need to get a new nut for my guitar, but dont have the proper files and would rather not have to invest in that just now.

Heres the link. The nut i need is basically a gibson style.

Re: Stew Mac Nut Graphite Question

You might wanna try a nut by a company called TusQ. I put one on my Mockingbird cuz the bone one that was there was f'ed. So I ordered it online and it came preslotted. I'm sure if the StewMac has slots its ready to go but theyre customer service is really good so you could just call and ask.

Re: Stew Mac Nut Graphite Question

The Stewmac Graphtech nuts are made by the same company (Graphtech) that makes TusQ.

As far as the preslotted nuts go, you'll probably have to sand away the bottom to get the proper nut height. That will give you a pretty OK nut. To make it excellent, you might need to give the slots a bit of tuning to fit your radius (if it's off).

Re: Stew Mac Nut Graphite Question

To get the nut right on the money, it will take an experienced guitar tech or luthier. Though, you "might" be able to get it in the neighborhood like MattPete pretty much pointed out.

Re: Stew Mac Nut Graphite Question

Yea, I have a tech I can take it to, I just might do that maybe save me the trouble.
