Still another thread about Metal pickups !

Hi ! First, I'm new to the forum. Next, I have a good question...

I see Seymour Duncan have great (new?) avtive pickups like the Blackouts but which of them all (passives and actives... but I'd like to try actives for the increased headroom and dynamics) would sound great for "Viking Metal" like Ensiferum and for Melodic Death Metal (like COB I'd say, maybe bassier, they sound thin) and if possible good cleans in the neck. I don't want UBER-OUTPUT like the Livewire Metal, let the amp do some (just some) of the gain.

Guitar :
Neck-thru
Alder or Mahogany Wings
Kahler 2315 Tremolo
Maple and Walnut Neck
(Macassar) Ebony Fingerboard

Thanks for taking the time to read this entire text :burnout: , Philip

Re: Still another thread about Metal pickups !

The Blackouts will get you to COB. I hear they are like EMGs but thicker and crunchier. I don't know the other group you mentioned but I think they'll do it without problem.

For passives the Distortion could be a nice choice, or maybe the Invader too...

Re: Still another thread about Metal pickups !

Yeah I thought the Blackout looked great... Anybody here tried them? My main fear is that there aren't a lot of mids =/ .

Re: Still another thread about Metal pickups !

It's the first one I thought about, too ! Looks Killer in mahogany (JB in mahogany is wonderful because mah... has less highs and the JB has a lot). Still the BO look like they have that great crunch!

Re: Still another thread about Metal pickups !

Still there's one thing. To me the JB sounds a little "thin", like the guitars in COB. The Blackouts look like the "Killer Set"!!! I've gotta tried them. I wonder when they'll have some or some on guitars at Steve's Music...

Re: Still another thread about Metal pickups !

well ,i think Mustaine got this new set because of the very same reason! The new set have to have more balls and better definition.you have return policy ,so try them out!

Re: Still another thread about Metal pickups !

Ensiferum used EMG's on the self titled and Iron. I don't know what they used for Victory Songs. I believe an 81 bridge and 85 neck, if that's the sound you're going for.

:O :O :O !!!!!!!!!! Really ?!?! I thought they used the JB... so they're EMGs ? Must be the GREAT amps they use because they have a rich, full sound.

Blackouts it shall be then... or Mustaines... or a Blackout Bridge LiveWire Classic Combo... I'll see. They're all good !!!

You know... Ensiferum is the best band in the world (Jari Maenpaa Era)

Re: Still another thread about Metal pickups !

AFAIK they used them with a Tri-axis. Jari has an EMG loaded Jackson Dinky. You can really tell when you listen to certain songs. The JB isn't in that ballpark imo, their sound is much too punchy and tight.

Thanks ! Tri-axis... made by Mesa Boogie right?
Oh. Just Googled it. Costy $ !

BTW I think they used a Marshall 1960A cab... is it possible ?

I found some clips of Ensiferum on mp3sugar. That's really great music!
I agree the tone is very EMG-like, so I think Blackouts fit best.

And welcome to the forum!

Re: Still another thread about Metal pickups !

Petri lindroos uses a kramer barreta that comes with either the jb or distortion...so u might wanna try that
