Still waiting for my Strat...AAAARRRGGGHH!

As I posted here before, I'm changing my Texas Special Strat into a H/H Strat. After an agonizing decision over which pups to use, I finally decided on the '59 Trembucker and Jazz neck. I dropped my Strat, new pickguard, and Jazz neck pup off at a local shop and had them order the '59 bridge pup. I gave them my guitar right before Labor Day, and was told that the pup would be ordered after the holiday weekend. They said SD had it in stock, so it shouldn't take too long. Well, they just got the '59 pup in last Friday...after almost 3 weeks! Now, it's been a month of waiting, and it's still not ready. I'm getting impatient...(Luckily, it isn't my only guitar; I have another Strat.)

i would have made sure they already had everything ready to go before handing over my baby.

Re: Still waiting for my Strat...AAAARRRGGGHH!

that's too bad

the whole ordering process requires a lot of patience, since there are a number of variables, like when they order, what the particular model is, etc ...

but unless there's a good reason, I'd wait till the pickups are in stock before leaving my guitar. (you probably didn't need to hear that, though) :)

patience ...

Stratfan,

I just had new pickups installed into my strat a few months ago. The guy who I hired to do the pickup installations rushed his work and ended up scratching the hell out of my guitar body with the router bass while routing. In the end he ended up having to order and buy me a brand new replacement body because the scratches he put in my guitar were to deep to buff out without loosing the glossy finish. Basically what I'm saying is be sure you give them a reasonable amount of time to install your pickups and get the job done right. Ordering a new body was a huge hassle. :smack:

i agree with guitarguy, when i installed my htorial into my strat it took maybe a few weeks, but it was well installed, you dont want to run intoa situation where the guy ruined your guitar.

Re: Still waiting for my Strat...AAAARRRGGGHH!

My work being done is pretty straightforward - wiring up the pickguard assembly and a set-up, no routing involved. On the bright side, once this is done, if I want to change humbuckers in the future I can just pull one out and wire up the new one the same as the old one.

I wasn't originally planning on routing either. It turned out that the 2 humbucker routings in the guitar from the factory weren't quite deep enough for the duncan humbuckers I was having installed. Once the dude assembled my pickguard he found out that the routings werent deep enough when he tried to put my assembled pickguard with pickups on. As I said I wasn't originally planning on routing either because I assumed the humbucker routings from the factory were deep enough for the Duncan Humbuckers I was installing. To my surprise they weren't so I had to get the routing done. Basically what I'm getting at is you may think right now that you won't need any routing done but judging by my situation you just might.

Re: Still waiting for my Strat...AAAARRRGGGHH!

Usually when I bring in my guitars for pickups changes I'll buy the pickups myself first and bring them in with the guitar. That way there is no lag-time for ordering the PUPs. That keeps the price down a bit.

The guy I usually go to takes about a week to change everything up.

Since Labor Day?

Man....never get a refret. You'll have offed yourself by the time it's done.

Re: Still waiting for my Strat...AAAARRRGGGHH!

I don't like the idea of "Drop it off, and we'll call you when it's ready". Just tell me when you can get to it, and then I'll drop off the guitar. In this case, I wasn't using the guitar at the moment, and had already sold the old pickguard assembly with the Texas Special Pups. I couldn't understand why it took 2 1/2 weeks to ship a pick-up that was in stock from California to Pennsylvania. Of course, it's possible that I was told that it was ordered before it was actually ordered.

Any way, I just can't wait to hear my old Strat with humbuckers in it!!

Re: Still waiting for my Strat...AAAARRRGGGHH!

Finally got word on my Strat...after 2 1/2 weeks waiting for a pup, and another 3 1/2 weeks until they started to work on it! Evidently, the hole in the Fender H/H pickguard for the bridge pup isn't big enough for the '59 Trembucker, and has to be enlarged. I told them that I want the guitar finished by next Thursday for practice that night. We'll see...

I'm dying to hear how this guitar is going to sound with the SD humbuckers!
