Stk 9/6/7

Traded with a local guy (who had some drool worth gear) for a set of Stacks... dropped them in my ‘74 Strat, and they’re pretty great. 9 bridge, 6 middle, 7 neck.

The 9 is more Stratty than the DiMarzio SDS-1 that was in it, but still pretty beefy. The neck and middle are both hotter than the original stock pickups, but I like them a lot. Have it wired with a tone each for the neck and bridge, and pulled the Megaswitch in favor of a normal 5 way.

Sweet. That's not a combo I've heard talked about much. Usually it's 4's, with one of those in the bridge. Does it still have the "Strat" vibe? You might turn some discussions on their ear. :)

I didn’t spend a whole lot of time with them, and only got to run through my Mooer GE200 into headphones. I’ll be a little more in depth when I get some amp time.

But for now, yes still very Stratty. It’s definitely more aggressive than it was, but they seem to respond well to volume control tweaking. I dislike whatever cap my dad used, so no comment on that yet. However he wired them, they’re WAY too dark when rolled back.

The bridge pickup doesn’t need a tone to not sound icepicky, similar to the DiMarzio that was in it. The neck sounds very much like a Strat neck, but *more*, and the middle is very cool. I’m a middle Strat pickup junkie, and this one could very easily be the only pickup in the guitar. It cuts like the bridge, but has that neck pickup skank.

The set kind of has a Tube Screamer vibe baked in, which decreases with the volume rolled back. Keep in mind, I’m not after pristine bell like tone, so I like that they’re a little dirty. If you want 50’s Strat tone, this combo is probably a bad choice.

I have that exact setup in a Godin Artisan ST. It really covers a lot of ground for a rock guitar. The STK-S9 really can drive an amp well. It definitely has a Strat vibe, but much warmer overall across all positions.
