STK-S2 in bridge - noticeable breakup

Y'all,
I installed a STK-S2 in the bridge position of my '76 strat about 4 years ago. I noticed recently that if I strum real hard right over the top of pickup, I get very noticeable break up. I'm connecting directly into a clean Vox practice amp, and curiously cable type seems to make a difference. Also the stock middle and neck pups do not have this problem. Any guesses?
Thanks,
-Bob

Try to pressure one string on to a magnet pole. This gives a connection between the grounded string and the magnet, which could be connected with an uninsulted piece of the winding, and causes a shortage. I've heard about that happening sometimes.

when you say cable type makes a difference, you mean it happens with one cable but not another? which cables?
is it a crackle or ??? can you describe the sound you get?
