STL-3 QP for Tele Tapped?

Hey everyone, I've recently wanted to change the bridge pickup in my mim tele. Last summer I dropped in a lil 59, but recently I've grown bored with it and miss that twang. I still want something hot, but miss the singlecoil-ness.

So I stumbled across the quarter-pound for tele. But I am a little confused, what is the difference between the tapped and untapped version? Is the untapped version a humbucker?

In other words, what is the difference between these two pups:

Thanks in advance,

A "tapped" coil is a coil that has an extra lead (tap) somewhere between the start and end of the coil. That pickup will have three leads instead of two, basically allowing you to choose full output, or a lower, tapped output. In a regular style pickup you get the increased output and mids of an overwound pickup, plus the ability to dial it back to regular tone and output with the tap. The QP tapped tone will be a bit different than a typical vintage Tele pickup due to it's larger magents. Same concept though, you get hot and vintage in one pickup.

Oh I see. Thanks a lot. I don't want anything to fancy. Just 2 pickup 3-way switching. So I suppose the untapped standard version is whats best for me?

Use a push pull volume or tone pot to control the tap, its simple to setup, and wont alter the look of your axe at all, but it will provide you a new tone to play with, the pots arent very expensive, around $15 US for a quality part.
