Stock Strat Pickups?

Hi All,

I just won an eBay bid for the scratchplate and electronics of a 1993 USA Fender Floyd Rose Classic Stratocaster. I bought it mainly for the Dimarzio PAF Pro in the bridge but am interested in the single coils which are included. I'm mainly a Les Paul user so I'm familiar with the pickups that Les Pauls have had over the years (Burstbuckers, 57 Classics, T-Top, 490T etc). Have Strat pickups had a similar evolution? What might I expect from these standard Single Coils?

The Dimarzio will be going in a project guitar, along with some Texas Specials that I have but I'm wondering if it's worth entertaing trying the USA standard Singles first. I like the Texas specials but they are very noisy and can be a bit shrill under gain. I really want the Neck pickup in particular to give me Ritchie Blackmore when under some gain and John Mayer / Hendrix style when clean :cool2:

Oh....and is it even worth putting the TBX control in? Never tried one, haven't heard many positive things about them.

try it! the american standard pickups are good, but not great. however in the neck, that might be totally fine. the neck spot is more forgiving when it comes to pickups, almost anything sounds ok in there.

The am std pups are pretty hot. ABout 8k from memory. Powerful midrange pickups that work well with gain. I like texas specials better if you are after a strong ballsy strat pickup, but they are pretty good pickups nonetheless. Perhaps a bit harsh on the top end, but not a bad pup at all. Definitley not vintage sounding.

I replaced my standard USA pickups with Custom shop 69's to give me a more of a vintage Gilmour tone. Worth looking at or you could try the Fat 50s
