This is just an idea I've been intertaining for a while, if anyone for some reason thinks its a good one fell free to use it, just be kind and credit me LOL
Ok, the idea:
Imagine a JB or Alnico II Pro, pups without a cover.
Now remove their screws and place a sheet of metal that would only cover the top of the pup (not going around like a normal cover).
Make the holes for the screws a bit smaller than a normal cover so that when the screws are in place they touch the metal cover when totally screwed in (which is a condition for my idea).
Now, would this provide a larger magnetic field that would work more or less like a blade pup? What other impact would it have on the sound?
Condiderations
I know you would loose the ability to adjust your pup. Could this be resolved by just having at least 1 screw making contact (it would be relativelly easy with the two outer strings due to the radius but it would keep the screw radius pretty big/flat).
Since the basic idea is to enhance the sustain you don't need to set the screws too high (yeah it might be nice to have that option too but don't you rain on my parade LOL, this is the marketing excuse
)
It might work better in a pup with 12 screws ( just so you could have the ability of adjustment and still have contact) but would there be any means of connecting the plate to non-adjustable slugs?
The plate might need to have the bottom that would sit on the non-adjustable slugs somed (unperceivably on top) to accomodate for the slugs.
I guess microphonics could be resolved by waxed potting
I've been thinking aboutthis for some time now as an homemade mod/addition in order to have a sort of passive sustainer pup for a very low price. Don't actually need it, but it seems everyone wants more and more sustain.
So, have I just created the Custom Shop LSP or am I trying to get an X-shaped pup (who was it that had that idea, I rather liked it).
Also, admins, I think this belongs here but feel free to move it.
