Strange Harley Benton tele neck poles

A friend of mine gave me this pickup from a Harley Benton tele not functioning to fix. The negative wire is clearly cut from contact, it wouldn't be so difficult to make it work (it measures 6.04K and it seems Alnico).

Once removed the cover I've noticed the outer two poles seems different from the other four, they seem recessed and beveled.
On the bottom they appear all the same size.

Have you ever seen something like this? Any idea about the purpose?

I think its the way the bevel on top fits in the hole in the bobbin

its just the bevel makes it look smaller

I could be wrong

If it's not a simple question of avaibility of rod magnets, it might be an attempt to compensate how identical poles make slightly stronger the magnetic field above outer strings (E strings), by using poles of lower AlNi(Co) alloys / flux strength at both ends of the coil. A properly calibrated magnetometer would allow to check if it's the case or not. :-)
