Strap Button Pulled Out

Anybody know something I could re-seat it with? I don't want to make another hole, can I just use a wood filler or is there something more DIY at home that I could use.

Re: Strap Button Pulled Out

yup, jam a tooth pick in there and break it off at the body, then do it again so that most of the hole is filled with toothpick wood. if the hole is really blown out then use more toothpicks. if you want you can put a couple drops of glue in there but i never do and have never had an issue with it pulling out

+1 to what they said.

I like to use a little glue. Nothing scientific, or anything.... I usually just stick the toothpick into the glue bottle and scrape off most of what sticks. Most of the time with glue, less than you'd think is still too much.

+1. Works better than wood putty!

Re: Strap Button Pulled Out

Not only will the toothpick fill the hole, but the superglue will stiffen the wood and allow the screw to "bite" better.

My guits are never going to be for sale, so I used a sliver of some mahogany I had laying around and liquid nails from the builder's store to put my strap locks in. They ain't budgin'.

+1 on the toothpicks. Works great.

I'd be reluctant to forego at least a little wood glue when I put the toothpick halves in the hole. Just a little insurance.

must be a pretty small hole if a toothpick will fill it, that wood needs to be stiffer!!!

(sorry, had to say it)

Re: Strap Button Pulled Out

All I've ever used is toothpicks and Elmer's wood glue. Works great.

Re: Strap Button Pulled Out

I would use a drill bit to enlarge the hole and then glue in some oak dowel. The oak is very dense and doesn't strip easily. Then cut off the dowel flush and sand it down.
