Strap Screw Came Off! :-(

Re: Strap Screw Came Off! :-(

If the screw came out of the body ... this happens from time to time.
You can either
A - plug the hole with wood putty, let it dry, and re-drill, or
B - just drill a new hole right next to the old one

I've had the screws loosen or come out of all my guitars at one point.

Re: Strap Screw Came Off! :-(

Do I have to use glue with wood putty? How do I actually do this?

This is indeed a painful experience :-(

Re: Strap Screw Came Off! :-(

toothpick trick

trim toothpicks to depth of hole, dip them in glue, and insert around edges of hole until you sufficiently fill it with wood. Wait a little while then screw the button back in. Don't use it for 24 hours or overnight then go back and tighten the screw up some more. With the Extra wood and dried glue, that sucker ain't goin' nowhere.

Re: Strap Screw Came Off! :-(

wow, does that work? That's amazing!

so should I fill the whole hole with toothpicks or just the edge? I am confused.

Fill it as much as you feel you need to, it'll compress a lot when you put the screw in. Just leave enough room in the middle to get the screw started again. I do this every time I install strap locks on any of my guitars, even spanking new ones, makes them nice and solid. They will never come loose.

Re: Strap Screw Came Off! :-(

I always just shoved the toothpicks in, broke em off at the tip, and put the screw back in, never bothered with glue, never needed to.

nope, don't need to.

Oh, and use Elmer's wood glue or similar. Anything else won't cut it or may be harmful. Don't use regular household glue. I forgot to add that.
