straplocks?

I was wondering, I 've got an epiphone les paul, and read somewhere that you should put some straplocks for it.
is this really necessary, cuz I had 2 guitars and never put straplocks on them. Is this les paul so different I should?

Re: straplocks?

You dont have to, some guys dont. There's nothing that will keep your LP from sliding off the strap, but that's a personal choice.

Re: straplocks?

I recommend it.. for only a very small price, you prevent the guitar from dropping on the floor and getting damaged and the peace of mind.

I'm a lot less cautious with my guitar with straplocks now (because it always used to come loose) and can work on the right posture for playability.

Re: straplocks?

Let's face it, if you have a Les Paul you need to worry about the headstock. LP headstocks have a notorious reputation for weak headstocks. If your LP slips off of the strap and it goes down head first your going to have some serious repair costs ahead of you. :22:

Re: straplocks?

You could go for a locking strap by planet waves, it locks onto almost all guitar pins and your guitar will never fall out of it, its handy if you want a secure strap but dont wanna put strap locks one your guitars.

Re: straplocks?

i use them, and i think they're worth the money if you intend to be mobile live

the number of times i've shat myself trying to stop my guitars hitting the floor when the strap comes off was giving me mental problems till i got some strap locks

Re: straplocks?

I suggest straplocks for any and every guitar. The only guitar I've ever played were I didn't worrie about the strap coming off is with my SG because the strap pin is on the back of the guitar insted of the horn or shoulder.

Re: straplocks?

I have shaller straplocks myself but I see many guitarist here using those red rubber things that are on every Grolsch 'Beugelfles'.

Re: straplocks?

anyone have an ID what they cost? i 've been looking on the net but found nothing about the price.

Re: straplocks?

I prefer the Schallers to the Dunlops and have used both.

The Dunlops stripped out the head of the screw. Now I know what you're going to say, "It doesn't matter because you don't need to be taking it out." But a product shouldn't ruin another. The Schallers are just as reliable and, IMO, harder to detatch inadvertantly.

The only guitar I own without Straplocks installed is my Franken-Tele, and that's only because I've opted out of strap pins for it. I screwed in some eyelet hooks and use a chain. If that guitar ever hits the floor it's because I'm swinging it around.

Re: straplocks?

Buy em. Especially with a Paul, even as it is that it's an Epiphone and won't be as heavy as a Gibson, it's still heavier than lots of guitars. Pay the small toll and never worry about embarrassing and disasterous moments.

Re: straplocks?

If you've never had a guitar come off the strap, you might not need 'em. That can vary based on how old your straps are and how much you move around while playing.

From a cost standpoint, if you can't afford straplocks, you really can't afford repairs that might arise from the strap coming off the guitar.

Yes! Dunlops are JUNK! I had a set, and I just didn't trust em'! If you look at pics of both, it's IMPOSSIBLE for the Schaller's to come off accidentally. The Dunlops can pop out at any time- a horror story just waiting to happen.

I never had one come off, and I never want to have one come off! Too many mental images of one of my babies with a snapped neck to go without! $15 ain't much compared to a new neck!
