yo wonderful people,

can you please recommend me a strap with strong leather ends so i dun have to use a straplock on my new axe? its so new i feel bad drilling out the original strap buttons.. and my old planet wave locking straps wont work cos the locking ends wont fit the small space between the neck and strap button.

thanks a bunch.

Re: straps that work well WITHOUT straplocks..

This isn't exactly what you're asking for, but.....

I have used these Dunlop Lok Strap things in the past and found them to be very reliable - never dropped a guitar anyway! They require no modification to the guitar, you put them over the stock strap buttons after you put the strap on, turn one part through 180 degrees and they lock in place.

Search down the page for Lok Strap: http://www.jimdunlop.com/products/accessories/straplocks/

The rubber washers from Grolsch bottles make a pretty good strap security system too. :beerchug:

I traded the buttons on my SG for a couple of steel washers. My strap is going nowhere.

Planet Waves Locking Straps, the ends lock onto your guitar so there is no way it can come off, and it eaily removed in a matter of seconds.

He said those won't work.

per your question, i dont think the strap is the part of the equation that you can modify for complete safety ... i think you need to look into the method of attachment to the guitar for increased security ...

i like schaller straplocks - not perfect, but best for me
good luck,

t4d, thank you. i understand that strap locks are the best solution. just that i just got a new axe and i cant make myself rip out the buttons yet.

hey pac, since you are here in germany you may wanna try one of those:
www.slapstrap.de
They are quite nice and work great without locks. And they are cool for heavy guitars since they are thickly padded and pretty wide

chief, those things are sweet. does the girl come with the strap? :32:
kinda pricey tho, do u use them? how do u find them?

Re: straps that work well WITHOUT straplocks..

Yep,i use one of those(sorry no girl included) and they are about the most comfortable straps i've used so far. Since there is not even a single metal part on them there's nothing that could scratch the guitar(you adjust the length by a unique system including velcro(no idea how it is spelled) tape. Since my Custom B.C Rich is about as heavy as a bag of bricks(rosewood body ebony neckthrough and fretboard) i need something which is padded and really wide. and those straps are perfect for that matter. Yes they are quite pricey but they are handmade and the quality of materials and workmanship is great. You gotta see for youreself if it's woth it for you,but for me it is(at 3500€ for the guitar it didn't matter anymore to pay 32€ for a nice strap/i just noticed they became more expensive but i got mine from ebay when there wasn't a complete online shop so this cahnges something)

is use locks(i would go mad if i dropped my guitar). But the leather is thick and dosn't bend out of form that easily(it's abit hard to get the strap over the button but it's super-tight after it's put on). And my other guitarist use one tto and he doesn't use straplocks and never had his guitar falling down so i'd say it's about as safe as it can get without locks

Re: straps that work well WITHOUT straplocks..

washers are the small hardware circles that go on screws sometimes, you just put your strap between two of them, run the screw back through all three layers, and screw it back in. it's a great solution
