Straps

I know a lot of you put emphasis on strap locks, because hey, it's holding your guitar up. I was just curious how many people cared about having a cool/nice strap, versus that black nylon one for $5?

I was looking at getting one of the Levy's straps. Anyone have anything to share on these, like poor sewing or anything of that nature?

The one at the top left corner in brown to go with my honeyburst ESP Eclipse.

Re: Straps

I have 3 Levy's straps that I have used for years. I have the suede leather looking ones..... good quality and very comfortable. Schaller strap locks or something similar are a must.

Re: Straps

i have a crapload of straps lol. anyway i have a strap similar to the one you like with the grommets although mine is made by dunlop seen here http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/g=home/search/detail/base_pid/364055/ i have the black one. it's a great strap although i would NEVER consider using it on a les paul unless it's a light one (although your esp should be light enough). why, b/c you do feel the grommets and after a while with a heavy LP it may become a PITA. i use mine with my twistedcaster (tele) and it's fine with no problems for long term use, i don't think i'd want to use it on either of my pauls though due to the extra weight and those metal grommets as mentioned (even though they aren't real heavy they sure are heavier than my tele). however levys makes a great strap in general, i have a few made by them with no complaints and those worn ones are real cool!!

Re: Straps

I absolutely Love this strap - the Khaki one
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/g=guitar/content/cpd=YZXI/base_pid=361121/
But I can't see spending $32 plus S&H to buy it.

I used to have a black Fender strap that I used for years. But I was playing with a band and one time during practice I jumped up and when I came down the strap broke! Right where the two parts of the strap meet at the top horn (the actual strap and the piece that the strap lock end goes on). Luckily I wasn't hitting an open drop d chord :omg:

Re: Straps

I have a thing about mating the perfect strap with the guitar, then leaving it for the life of the guitar. It's almost like an extension of the guitar.

Goldtop LP - Gold celtic knot Dunlop woven
Honeyflame LP - orange flame Dunlop woven
Black Beauty LP Custom - Black Leather 3" Franklin w/yellow stitching
SB Strat - my homemade Duane Allman large metal loop strap
Blue strat - Fender blue racing logo strap
PRS McCarty Teal Green - tan suede that matches binding and zebra pups.

im the same way, each guitar has it's own strap that is picked to go with the theme of the guitar.

Re: Straps

I don't like designs or any other BS on guitar straps. I have two old-school black leather straps, both setup with Schallers. All my guitars get Schaller posts, so they all use the same strap. I recently switched over from DiMarzio Clip-lock straps, which I still like, but not as much as the black leather.

Re: Straps

I like to have cool straps, Mine range from the classy leather levys, to the kepur hemp strap (heh, heh), to my "so uncool its cool" collection of 5 dollar bargain-bin straps (smiley face, furry tiger-print, the works).

Never been all too big on flat black.

Re: Straps

For the acoustic and resonator, a 2.5" black leather Planet Waves strap with one Fender/ Schaller strap lock on the neck. Can't put on the second lock as it's the jack plug on the acoustic.

For Sunni the Strat a no-name(actually I brought it so long ago that I've forgot and/or had that brain cell die for the cause.) 3.5" black leather strap fitted only recently with Fender/ Schaller locks.

These cost me $30 Australian per set, I'd guess $21.50 US but I'm guessing at the exchange rate. It is a rip off but I rather support the local M & P store than just buy online. Really hard to try out a guitar online!

I always go for a wide strap and the black doesn't detract from the eye/ear candy that is the guitar.

Re: Straps

One of my current favorite straps is one I had made to 'resemble' Peter Green's when he was in Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac:

My most "unique" strap used to be a sling for an M-60 machine gun:

Re: Straps

Just a tip Golden Boy, vacuum the rug before using it as the background for pictures LOL.

The straps are really nice though, the M60 custom would have to really suit a matt black ESP 7 string with a 300W Randall.

In Australia Colonial Leather make some really tasty straps it's just they are so damn expensive BUT they will do custom work. A small, no large lottery win would help with my GAS problem.

Re: Straps

What kind of ticks me about the M60 sling is that I held onto it for 13 or so years, repaired it, and after all the painstaking measuring and sewing through thick leather, the end of the padded area is on my shoulder and it's kind of uncomfortable at the height I play my guitars and basses at... :ugh1:

Re: Straps

Cool Peter Greene strap Golden Boy. I was always intrigued by Duane Allmans metal loop strap, so I found a 3" loop at Tandy's Leather. I cut a leather strap, and tapered the cut ends, sewing them around the loop. I've always loved that strap on my sunburst strat........as opposed to the LP, so the copped idea isn't TOO obvious! LOL

No picture, though.

Re: Straps

half of my straps are matched to the guitars....

myrack2.jpg

blueburst guitar gets a blue flame dunlop d-38
satin black w/ chrome hw guitar gets gray camo d-38
black p-bass copy gets gray flame d-38

my other 3 electrics just have plain black d-38s though

A black nylon strap for 5 buchs? :damnit: I bought a Martin strap for 15 € at a time the € was stronger than the Dolar (don't know about today). :2: And t think I bought it because it was the cheapest and they didn't stock the dunlop tribal...

Re: Straps

I generally just use cheap nylons, but I might try to haggle in a nice leather strap tomorrow when I get my new guitar.

Re: Straps

I don't like the way cheap nylon feels- they cut into me- and the leather ones were never adjustable enough for me- I couldnt get them small enough- i'm 5'6...

I use cheaper cotton ones, like the hemp ones too- soft, they cost maybe $10? I use basic black for the electrics, and khaki for acoustic- I don't like anything taking attention away from me or my axe, dood! :)
