Strat Auto Split HSS Wiring?

Hello all, I'm trying to take this wiring:

and make it so that the single coils and the humbucker have seperate tone controls. How would I go about this?

Pickups are SSL-2 neck and middle and Super Distortion S bridge if that effects the wiring colors.

hey,

You’d need to jumper the bottom right two lugs on the switch and send that to the middle tone. Then you take the third from the bottom on the right lug and send that to the bottom tone. However, a Super Distortion is meh with a 250k pot and SSl’s Are harsh with a 500K pot.

I’d strongly suggest Suhr wiring. This requires a super switch, 2 500K pots, a 250k pot and a couple 470K resistors. This way the humbucker works with 500K pots and the singles virtual 250K pots. This makes everything sound like it’s designed to.

Take it from someone who wrested with making an HSS sound right for years and finally got it right.

Re: Strat Auto Split HSS Wiring?

Thanks, but no thanks.I currently have this setup in my Strat minus the bridge tone control and I actually prefer this setup with 500k pots all around. The SSL-2s aren't too much brighter than when I had two 250k pots on them, but it is noticable. I tried a partial split in the bridge once because everyone's saying that it's the cat's pajamas, but I found that it doesn't really work that well on an already hot humbucker, it ends up being to thick and ends up much darker than I want it to be.

So using the 2nd from the top lug on the right side to go to the bridge tone control won't interfere with the split that also goes to that lug?

Oops,

I screwed up on this and didn't consider the auto-split in the bridge/middle configuration. With a conventional 5 way you're limited to a. a master tone with an auto-split, b. no auto-split and assigning the neck and middle to the middle tone, c. auto-split plus the neck on the middle and either the bridge OR middle on the bottom tone. You can get around this with a super switch, or do the coil split with a push/pull or push/push. The Super Distortion is remarkably nice split so I'd go push/push and do your split there.

Pro tip: flip your SSL-2's so the RWRP is in the neck and the standard wound in the middle, then coil-split so the south coil is the active one when the humbucker is split. The Super Distortion is great split and especially so with the south coil. That way positions 2 and 4 are hum cancelling....
