Strat guys...need your opinions on value.

Ive come across what I beleive is a 1991 Fender american strat. Serial number N1013610...Its not mint, has a few small dings, scratches...fretboard (maple) has dark "fretting marks" here and there. Frets are real nice, needs some adjustments to neck and bridge...looks like aftermarket saddles. Comes with a hard case. They have it priced at 699 (lol) and they said "make me a offer, its been here too long". What do you think its worth...Im looking to resell, not keep. Im actually thinking of doing a relic and ebaying it. Off the top of my head I was thinking 300....though they may not let go of it for that. It seems really lightweight...dont know what the body is made of. Thanks for your opinions. Peace

I can't see you getting much more than you pay for it on Ebay if you relic it... maybe if you fixed it up, not really sure.

Thanks. I dont think its "clean" enough to bring a good price, its not bad, but If I were looking for a strat, I wouldnnt choose this one, BUT just maybe if I do an awesome relic job??????? It is a typical brown type burst, maybe a SRV? Thats whay Im asking, I dont know crap about strats.

It's worth about $425, although I wouldn't buy it to resell because you'd only get $475 tops.

agreed, I do this all the time. I'm a gear whore too, but nowhere near the level that GJ here is. He's like that dirty ass whore you see on the street corner smoking crack. Um, but just with gear instead....y'know. :)

If I had more income I'd probably be the same way though. I have yet to keep a guitar for more than a year.

As a side note, don't forget that the poly finish on Strats can be a challenge to relic. At least a challenge to make it look real. Just look into different techniques and go slowly. I just sold my '01 Strat (didn't go Ebay) and had a hard time getting it sold for the price I thought was fair.

Re: Strat guys...need your opinions on value.

If you can get it for $300, I would just sell it off as is, without relicing. Not everyone will look at that as a bonus. You should be able to make something off of it at that price.

buying for $300? thats way below what i thought USA strats went for used...

if it was me, i'd buy it, keep it and sell something else.. theyre good guitars!
