Strat Neck Issue

I've noticed this since I got my American Std. Strat, and I've decided to adress what I think is a problem.

The neck is making a slight obtuse angle with the body. I'm not talking about a warp in the neck, but from the neck joint the neck begins to raise at an incline forming an obtuse angle with the body, instead of a 180 degree angle.

At this point through some trial and error, I did straighten the neck out, but I just want to make sure this it's supposed to be like this.

Re: Strat Neck Issue

I would only be worried if the angle were excessively reflex.

Under tension, most guitar necks take on a slight bow. This allows for string excursion. It simultaneously makes it impossible to get a straight edge along which to measure the angle that is bothering you.

Re: Strat Neck Issue

I had an 88 strat plus that did that. It wasn't a gradual bow but more of a kink where the neck joined the body. Unfortunately it was when Fender still only offered a year warranty and it had expired when it got to the point where it really effected the way it played. I've had a WD neck with an ebony fret board on it since 1990. I still have it.

Fender has a limited life time warranty now so they should replace it for you if it is effecting the way it plays. I would get in touch with them.

Sounds like you're describing a neck hump. A hump where the neck joins the body that tends to develop with Rosewood board guitars mainly.

Sounds like dress and crown time - get it to a good tech.
