How many of you buy a complete Strat set . . . and how many of you mix-N-match various Strat sets to get precisely what you want ?

Over here i can not find what i need, so i am forced to buy what the stores stock.
(importing it, is a bloody nightmare)

What do you think of this :

Bridge : ....Twang Banger
Middle : ....1/4 Pound
Neck : ......YJM FURY

Could this 'work' in all 5 positions ?

Much Appreciate.

In my book its a question of briteness of each pickup. The britest to neck, the darkest to the bridge, work for me. If its still too dark in one position try a separate volume knob for this position with 500k, while the others see 250k.

I tend to take a set and ditch the bridge for something else... a hotrail, a JB, some DiMarzio pup

Re: Strat pick up 'Mix-N-Match' game ?

Let’s see my Strats and Strat style guitars have...

APS-1/SSL-1/SSL-5
CS69/CS69/CS69
Injector/67/Injector
Big Dipper set
Lace Red/Silver/Blue
WCR Godwood/Single Coil
EMG 85
Dimarzio PAF Pro
C5/Pearly Gates

So some of each?

My Strat has a Classic Stack, Five Two, and a 59/Custom Hybrid. I think in your case, putting a QP in the middle might overpower the Twang Banger unless the QP is lowered quite a bit.

Re: Strat pick up 'Mix-N-Match' game ?

I''m probably around 30/30/40:
30% stock (vintage Strats I don't want to mess with)
30% aftermarket matched sets
40% mix & match

As to the OPs pickups, for my taste I'd probably put the 1/4 Pound at the bridge.
That said, I had a QP in middle position on one of my Floydcasters for 35 years and it worked great there. But the other pickups on that guitar are humbuckers.
