Re: Strat pickups

One BIG question you have to answer is do you want Noise free single coils or true singles that come with 60 cycle hum?

Re: Strat pickups

Classic stack plus neck and middle. How fat do you want the bridge? Custom stack is still kinda stratty. The hot stack is nice and fat

Re: Strat pickups

warm Fat not muddy classic stack plus was on my list and the hot stack thanks Albany Buffalo here

Re: Strat pickups

Have you considered Dimarzio? The Virtual Vintage Blues single coils are fatter, warmer, and noise free compared to traditional singles. Their area series is great too but they are brighter and more stratty compared to the VV blues.

Re: Strat pickups

What the ****? "Noise free single coils" are usually small humbuckers.

I think when he says he wants noise free later on, he doesn't mean rail designs or something similar to the lil 59 or JB jr. Like he's going for a traditional look/design, maybe closer to single coil tonally too than balls out humbucker in a single coil size. At least that is how I read it. But yeah I'd be lying if I said I wasn't confused for a while. I could be wrong too.

Re: Strat pickups

nice, i play out in ellicotville from time to time.

i have a strat with cs+ neck and middle with a hot stack+ bridge and it kicks lots of ass. nice stratty neck and middle tones with a higher output fat tone from the bridge. i think youll be happy

Re: Strat pickups

Sounds good thanks for the help what is the name of your band maybe I will see you in ellicotville some time

Re: Strat pickups

If you believe in noise free single coils then maybe Santa or the Tooth Fairy will bring you some? Only if your very good though??? Try some Lace pickups if the 60 cycle hum bothers you that much, they are about the closest thing to a TRUE noiseless S.C. I can think of & they have a pretty unique design? The rest of the "Noiseless pickups" are in realty S.C. sized humbuckers or they use a dummy coil to quell the 60 C hum but that basically makes them humbuckers as well? I'm kind of a purest when it comes to Strat's, Tele's, & all single coil pickups really? I have one of my Stratocasters with a JB-jr in the bridge & another with a Lil 59 neck pickup in the bridge, sounds much better than the bridge model I.M.H.O. but that's another story for another forum, As far as the rest of my S.C. guitars I just use REAL good single coils & if I want to cancel hum I've got positions 2 & 4 for that. If it's the late 60's early 70's Clapton/Hendrix Strat sound that you want you should stick with true singles & perhaps a noise gate if it still bothers you? Also, the Phat Cat is a awesome S.C. that is quite quiet compared to most p-90's but you'll end up with a guitar that looks like it has covered humbuckers in it but the sound will be all there & they will be dead quiet when you use both pups together as the neck is R.W.R.P. in respect to the bridge.

Re: Strat pickups

Going with classic stack plus neck and middle and hot stack for bridge thanks
Great choice. The Classic Stack Plus are great pickups. I haven't tried the Hot Stack bridge, though. Let me know how it sounds in your Strat!
