Strat Pickups

Hi to all

I'm looking to change p/ups in my standard strat and wondered if I could have some opinions on what I'm planning.

As said the it's a MIM Standard strat and I play through a marshall AVT-50 amp.

I've always liked the clean tones of the strat (but not the hum!) but have never been able to get a really good distortion. Having said that I've always been a bit envious of the that clean, warm slightly dirty sound of neck humbuckers.

I'm a metal fan and want to get a rockier sound, but I'd also like to keep a varied clean sound - something that'll sound neat with a bit of chorus or delay.

I've narrowed down to three options.

Hotrails in all three positions - if it's good enough for Dave Murray, it's good enough for me !!

Hotrail in bridge/Cool Rails mid and neck - currently my favoured option.

Hotrail in bridge/Vintage Rails/Cool rails - possibly the most flexible option.

Just wondered if anyone had played these combinations or had any thoughts or suggestions !!

Re: Strat Pickups

You could just try a SD Pup booster. It just made a believer out of me recently. It can give your singles an nice humb feel and sound.

Re: Strat Pickups

Just checked that out - it's an option - it does look cool. I also liked the fuzz tweak.

Only reservations I have on the stomp box front is having scaled down to a simple multi-fx and a Marshall Guv'nor (the original and still the best!!!) I'd be increasing my reliance on boxes, batteries, patch wires that break and all the other minor irritations that go with them ;)

Mind you that tweak fuzz is pretty awesome........

How's the P/Up booster with noise - I do find that at the buzz from the strat is horrid at volume (unlike my SG which is near silent - unless mercilessly riffed)?

Re: Strat Pickups

The booster is True Bypass but I assume it will boost any noises your guitar makes also :biglaugh: It is completely silent otherwise.
