I'm currently redoing a strat and am curious about the difference between pearly gates and custom custom for bridge .
thanks in advance for any info

Re: strat rebuild

CC will be warmer and hotter. The PG is a hotter PAF with some nice bite. It will be brighter. Both are great. What are you looking for?

Re: strat rebuild

going by your reply , probably the PG .. I'm not sure I understand " warmer and hotter "
tho'....... is it warmer or hotter ? or warm hot ? LOL
seriously, I think the PG is it . I need something with a bit of bright bite
Thanks

Re: strat rebuild

Wow - I just had that same issue last month. I decided to go with a CC in the bridge and the PG in the neck. I'm still in the process of assembling the strat.

Re: strat rebuild

Custom Custom does have very smooth high end, so you'd prolly be best with going PG set. '59 is a good set too, the Alnico V magnet gives more bite.

+1
I put in a set of little 59s in bridge on another strat and love 'em, mixed with Texas specials in mid and neck
but on this one I wanted something totally different so as an after thought ?

Well a PG set might be good.

Re: strat rebuild

any idea how the PGs and CCs compare with the little 59s ?
other than the coils on the 59s are switchable ( or should I say selectable ) I have 'em split with a push / pull

Re: strat rebuild

Well the most obvious comparison about the CC/PG to 59 should be that while CC/PG are designed to create brighter tones 59 does the opposite and builds a warmer tone. Therefore, while for ex. CC/PG are better companions for maple/ebony fingerboards 59 is the option to go for rosewoods..

the 59's I have on a rosewood and as it happens the strat I'm working on is maple. Now all I need to do is decide CC or PG and I hate to put money in one and find out it should have been the other. KWIM ?

Thanks guys

Since you hate to put your money in the wrong pickup,it'd better for us to help you if you only have described the tone that you want to get out of this new pickup further.
As for now,all I can say is that the Pearly Gates has a more vintage tone similar to Texas blues sound or to 59 Les Paul tones like those of ZZ Top while Custom Custom is the contemporary PAF pickup with increased output..
