Strat SSS question

So I currently have a Squier Bullet Strat that I've upgraded the pickups (SSL-1 in the Neck and Middle, SSL-5 in the Bridge) and other things such as a new graphtech nut, saddles, electronics, etc. I really love that strat "quack" but I can't seem to get a good sound in the middle + Bridge. Could it be because of the hotter output of the SSL-5? I've considered on changing it out with the vintage SSL-1, since I've played with the pickup height, and still couldnt get it to "quack. Would it improve, or could it be something else? Any thoughts would help.

Re: Strat SSS question

My guess is that is *is* because of the SSL-5. Quack generally happens with pickups of the same power level. So adding a more powerful bridge pickup will compromise that a bit. You should get really great quack with the neck and middle, though.

Re: Strat SSS question

Quack is all a matter of balance of output between the two pickups.

Some of my G&Ls have really hot pickups. Some don't have the top-end of a vintage single, but the quack acceptable because of the balance between the pickup. Raise or lower the middle pickup to find the sweet spot.

Re: Strat SSS question

This is the issue as said with the hot bridge. The secondary issue is that any adjustment to the middle automatically will do things to the middle pickup alone (the fussiest one for height in SSS IME), plus the n+m quack too.
