Hi Everyone,

"Mercy And The Wolf"...

http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=110014

I've been trying to get the time and money for a while to do a record, and I managed to make it to the studio last night for a "tone test" to see how one of my tunes would sound. Its kinda hard to write the song at home, and then have to imagine what the lead would sound like over it (I don't have a home studio).

Here's what's going on with this one:
rhythm: Telecaster and Bogner Metropolis
opening lead: Strat and Bogner (no fuzz), doubled left and right
lead 1: Strat and Lovepedal Ezekiel (set to "Rangemaster")
repeat opening lead (same as above)
lead 2: Tele and Lovepedal Ezekiel (set to "MKII")

as usual, everything played in standard tune.

Check it out!
Randy

Re: Strat, Tele, Lovepedal Ezekiel, Bogner

sounds great Randy

smokin' chops and tones .. i like that little groove you got going there - nice chord progression and melody! ... i've never heard of the ezekiel, gonna have to check that out!

gonna have to listen on better speakers to be sure, but the crunchy rhythm chords sound a little to 'indistinct' and muddyish ... might just be these speakers at work though ... i was kinda hopin' to hear more distinction between the strat solo and the tele solo in terms of tone ... maybe the differences will be more clear when i listen at home, but they were kinda plowin the same field, tonewise ...

let us know when we can buy the finished CD !!

btw, how's your boy doin these days? ... i hope he is doing well and has regained all his strength and good health ...

cheers

Re: Strat, Tele, Lovepedal Ezekiel, Bogner

hey t4d!
thanks for the word.
we cut that in about 30 minutes or so, and yeah the rhythm needs to be a little more distinct... I'm thinking when I get with the band, I am going to have a bit of an intro phase with the chords, then come in with the doubled Strat lead phrase.

Zack is doing great!
He just got back from a hunt in Canada. It is sponsored by some pro hunters that support St.Jude, and he bagged a moose! Got it on video! He is doing really well at school, and got a job at one of the local restaurants. ALL SYSTEMS GO!

I enjoyed it a lot!

My bro thought somebody sings but it was "just" the guitar which speaks hehe :beerchug:

Upper class tune hehe

Re: Strat, Tele, Lovepedal Ezekiel, Bogner

thanks, Strangesound!
I try to make 'em sing, maybe I'm making some headway!

Re: Strat, Tele, Lovepedal Ezekiel, Bogner

Man, you've got some killer slide! Love the tone, but a Telecaster/Strat through a goosed Bogner will do that :) ... there's no way around it, you make that guitar sing :fing2:

Re: Strat, Tele, Lovepedal Ezekiel, Bogner

Thanks Chris... I'm real, real, real, real appreciatory of that!
I didn't think I'd like playing Fenders as much as I do.
I also didn't think a Vox type amp would be that good to use.
I was wrong!
I like the extra tension on the Fender scale so I don't have to use heavy strings, and the class a "even order harmonics" thing really seems to do quite well with this.

Man, I wish I could play slide. Great stuff!! It is just a bit on the thin side as far as my speakers play it. ( Every puter system is different, so very possibly just mine) Great phrasing, have that nice drawl in your leads. Very southern indeed! Really looking forward to hearing more.

Re: Strat, Tele, Lovepedal Ezekiel, Bogner

Thanks, Kev!
I keep on trying to hit the note! Its in there somewhere!
I hope to cut about 4-5 tunes initially.
I've got some contacts up in Nashville that might be able to help secure something, but you never know.

Great tone and playing!
:)

Thanks, Rid!
I sold those Fulltone boxes, and waited to get something really cool.
The Ezekiel was a 1-day Ebay auction. Its got some NOS Philips OC76 trannies, and the balance knob lets me go from rangemaster, to overdrive, MKII, or FuzzFace. Incredible warmth. Much more gain than the Fulltone things (which for the most part sound pretty good). The clip is totally dry, and I think with some tweaking we'll be able to squeeze a little more out of it.

As always, it sounds great. i wanna hear that pedal all by itself.

It was nice to hear about Zach too, i am glad he is doing well.
A Moose huh, that sounds like fun.

Yep, Zack bagged a moose.
We've got a ton of moose meat in the freezer, and it tastes good.

I'll see if I can do another clip with the Zeke by itself, and show the different tonal possibilities (rangemaster, od, mkII and fuzzface).

grace & peace,
randy

Re: Strat, Tele, Lovepedal Ezekiel, Bogner

Wow, altogether great tune. The tone was nice, but the vibe and playing were better:bigthumb: I loved that slide riff!

Re: Strat, Tele, Lovepedal Ezekiel, Bogner

Thanks, JPP!
Its kind of a rough draft... trying to see how it all fits together.
The final version will have some actual production... reverb, delay, and there are some nuances in the playing that will be altered just a bit.
I've been spending a lot of time playing slide in standard tuning, and there are some interesting things that I want to get on the record.
