strat / tele necks

So what shape necks do you guys prefer? I prefer a V neck on a Strat with a rosewood fretboard. I'm thinking about building my own Tele, but not sure if I want to stick with a V shaped Tele neck or go with a C.

I tend to like the typical C shape but after playing a V the other day they aren't that bad and after a few min. of playing it i was used to it.

Re: strat / tele necks

I'm not a huge fan of V's myself. I'm pretty comforatable with C's, both thin as heck (Parkers, Ibanez, G&L etc.) and big (Grosh, Gibson etc.). The U shaped ones on the Telecasters are crazy, but they're fun. There's gotta be some major tone transfer in those suckers and they're probably the only necks that fit my entire hand and was almost too big for me (and I've got big hands).

Re: strat / tele necks

one of my favorites is a '54 profile, going from a .860 soft V at the 1st fret to a C at the 12th, with an .090 taper

Re: strat / tele necks

I have no idea what shape my guitar necks are. It's never really mattered to me. I like them big, though.

Re: strat / tele necks

I like whatever is on the old-school styled Teles. That's a good feeling neck.

Re: strat / tele necks

the bigger the better but the most important thing to me is the nut width...I like a 1 11/16 and like I said the bigger the better, I really like all the basic shapes as long as their beefy

Re: strat / tele necks

I prefer shallow C's, with a little less shoulder on the high e side. I tend to prefer asymmetrical necks like that (Fender SRV, Wolfgang, etc). EBMM Silos have the best necks EVER.

Re: strat / tele necks

I never understood the appeal of big necks(aside from tone:D)... They make my hands hurt like f*ck (and I have decent size hands).

If it were up to me, a neck would be just a little thicker than a fretboard :)

That said, I've never understood the difference between U shape, D and C necks. Looking at these letters now on the computer, they're all about the same shape, just facing different directions. Suffice it to say I dislike Vs, and love Ibanez Wizard

Re: strat / tele necks

i hate playing v's. they make me so uncomfortable!

i like a small U or a large D, with the smallest nut width i can get usually.

Re: strat / tele necks

I like a soft V with the neck about 1" deep. I like medium jumbo frets and a little flatter fingerboard than a real 50's Tele or Strat.

I thought one of the best Strat necks I ever owned was on my Eric Clapton "Blackie" Strat...but I couldn't get into the Lace Sensors and I sold it.

On Fender-types, I like the beefy C shape that the CIJ Fenders have; for a LP, I like 'em even beefier.

I like those and I also like the Clapton shaped neck - soft V. I like a baseball bat on the LP's!

nice big u shaped necks on my teles and the soft v shape on my strat feels pretty nice too.

Agreed. My "Blackie" has a phenomenal neck.
