Strat Wiring Help Needed~~

I have a Strat with single coil pups in neck & middle, along with a SD Lil 59 in the bridge & a 5-way selector, and one volume & one tone control.
I want to wire it so ONLY the bridge pu is affected by the tone control, AND i want a very mild tone cut. Could one of my fellow members please send me a detailed schematic on how this is done, as well as suggest what type of cap & what value i should try. Again, i also may seek a VERY subtle tone cut, and just maybe a treble bleed to save the highs when vol. rolled down.
Many thanks in advance. Kenny

I can probably come up with a diagram for you later tonight or tomorrow morning, if you don’t mind waiting a little bit. As for the capacitor that would give a very mild cottage, I have used a .005uF on a few of my guitars and really like it. It doesn’t get anywhere even close to muddy but still takes the edge off.

Thanks very much, Briguy. FWIW, I do have an auto-split coil setup with the bridge & middle, & that #2 pos. is real sweet, & I wouldn't want to lose that. The biggest problem from what I'm told is that i might be stuck with tone affecting the #2 bridge/middle position, which is why they say I might need a superswitch. I dunno, but I appreciate all of your help, when you get around to it!

Re: Strat Wiring Help Needed~~

In a normal strat wiring scheme, there are 2 wires leaving the 5-way-switch and running to the two tone pots. Those correspond to the neck and middle pickup. The next switch lug up on the same side of the switch as those 2 wires (it should be empty) is the one you need to connect to a tone pot to have it connected to the bridge pickup. If your strat already has only one tone pot, then this may not hold true. Larger cap values (ex: .1mfd or .047mfd) will roll off more highs than a lower value cap (ex: .02mfd or .0015mfd)

Not to rush you, but any luck with a schematic. FWIW, my bridge & middle pups are wired for for auto-coil-split, so isolating the tone control for bridge only might not work in the #2 position....?

Re: Strat Wiring Help Needed~~

I’ll start working on it, but just so you know, you’re going to have to get a super switch to pull it off. Otherwise the closest you’re going to get is having the tone control affect positions 1 and 2 instead of just #1. That’s because the standard switch automatically bridges the notch positions.

Bottom line is that if you’re trying to do this with your existing parts, you’re stuck with the tone affecting 1 and 2. I’m gonna draw it up with the super switch, though.

Re: Strat Wiring Help Needed~~

Hi bri....please help me with one last change.....forget the superswitch.....it's an HSS setup ...i have 1 vol., 1 tone, standard 5way switch, auto tap between the bridge double coil pup & the middle. I'll live with the tone on the #2 position as well as #1 pos., but NO TONE ANYWHERE ELSE! & I have 1 tone cap to put on the tone pot to control the degree of cut on the # 1&2 positions. Thanks ever so much again, Kenny~~

You know? I almost just did both last time but talked myself out of it! [emoji12]

This one will get you where you want to go:
