strats with pearly gate plus

Re: strats with pearly gate plus

I heard one, and it sounded great. It sounded similiar to a Les Paul, but with it's own unique Tone.

Re: strats with pearly gate plus

hey ive got one of those and I love it but it does have a little more bite and harmonics than normal pearly gates pickups. if you have a little single speaker in your amp you may not like it as its mids are very defined but if you have a 12 inch speaker or 2 or 4-12 inch speakers cab you will love this pickup. it has a great van halen 2 sounding voice and its easy to make this pickup scream or get harmonics. it will not sound good on a floyde rose equiped guitar cuz the pickup is not strong enough for that. its made for a hard tail strat or strat with a standerd trem on it. if you have a floyd rose and still want that screaming harmonic tone go with a screamin demon instead. also its not realy for drop d tuning as much. you can and it will sound ok but if your looking for more of the drop d 4-12 cab pantera sound you will need somthing like a full shred or somthing hot like that with a resistance rateing above 10 and higher. Hope this helps. again I love this pickup alot in my strat playing thru 2 2-12 inch speaker cabs with its standard trem and maple neck. its got alot of sizzleing gain on the high's. :beerchug:

Re: strats with pearly gate plus

cuz I like pearly gates, and i want a guitar with them

I do want one in the future though

thanks to all who have answered, it sounds pretty sweet, i think i'll go with a hh strat, pg+ bridge, pg neck, tbx master tone, blend pot, and then a standard master volume, rosewood fretboard

and it's gonna be mexi, so, standard trem

Re: strats with pearly gate plus

I did not like it at all in my Texas Special Strat. Luckily there are some people out there who do, so I was able to get rid of it. In my MIA alder/maple+maple Strat it sounded thin and shrill- so much it almost hurt my ears w/headphones. Not "Les Paul" at all. Easy harmonics, but bright as hell and thin...very thin sounding.

Pretty much there - I found the sizzling highs a bit too much for my taste, so I lowered it a lot to get a fuller, PAF-ish tone. It's still go those trebly upper mids which give a lot of cut through, but I often wonder what it would sound like thru a darker guitar (I think someone on this forum has tried it) like an LP tho. Whenever I think bout changing pickups tho something about it makes me think otherwise. A good pickup that does rely on your amp and settings to get the best.

heh, hence the blend pot & tbx tone

I found the PG+ to be very toppy in my own strat...I had put something like a .056 cap on the bridge tone control so I could roll some of that toppy stuff off...It's got great growl and cuts great, but I really ended up liking the PGB/Custom Hybrid alot more..I don't care for the TBX tone control and I use No Load tone pots, but be sure you can roll some of that biting highend away....If you love highs(I Know Doc Barlo does, and he loves the pickup)then you'll be fine...If you go after a warmer and smoother strat bridge pickup, then you may not like the A5 PG+? Hope it all works out your way for you however....

I use the Blender Pot also and it's a very cool and useful mod...My favorite blue strat has that mod...

Re: strats with pearly gate plus

well, I'm going for a more 'rockin the blues' kinda thing with this guitar. See, my setup now has good chunky bottom, slightly recessed mids, and bright & articulate highs, with this guitar I'm going for a tone that's like...AFI, but with more bass & less fake sounding. I guess something tight & middy enough to make it sound like i'm using vintage 30's

Re: strats with pearly gate plus

I'm not so sure a pickup will make you sound like you're using different speakers...

Re: strats with pearly gate plus

i can get pretty close with my EQ pedal actually. If the bassman had a mid & presence knob I could nail it

I too love Rock and Blues and if thats what your going after than chances are you will realy love this pickup. I like it more than a regular pearly gates cuz with the c5 mag the highs and lows are more pronounced and sharper. another words the gain will be pronounced with every note bend and the bar chords will have a nice pronounced gainy clip. like I said to me you need bigger or more speakers to realy appreciate this pickups tone. if your playing on a small speaker or small speakers or headphones it will sound to gainy trebley. On bigger speakers with an amp with lots of gain?-to me it was love at first note :beerchug:

Re: strats with pearly gate plus

I'm not much of a fan of PG's for some reason.....maybe the reasons stated above.
I tend to like the trem 59, C-5, or CC in a strat. I really wish they'd offer a tremspaced Seth Lover!

Re: strats with pearly gate plus

nah, the cab is gonna be a closed 4x12, speakers are real loose & slightly recessed in the mids, so no worries about that
