String height

I am curious to what string height other people on this forum use on elctric guitars..

I set it at 2.2mm at 12th fret on the low e and 2mm at the high e.

Re: String height

Thats exactly where I like my height to be. I was a bit lower but all the string buzz drives me insane so now I run 2.2 on the bass and comfortably stay at 2 on the high E. I find this to work very well, minimum string buzz and not to high where that drives me bananas.

Re: String height

I setup the relief so that they don't buzz at the lower frets, and height at the 24th fret : 1mm for high-E, 1.4mm for low-E/low-B

Re: String height

My ruler measuerments are in the negative regions, because I have to have my strings so low that they are actually underneath the frets.

Re: String height

On my compound radius/12" guitars, as close to 1mm as I can get.

I follow that logic on my 7.25"s as well, but might not get closer than 2mm bass / 1.5 mm treble without buzzing. 2mm over the treble strings? Borderline way too high for me. I can put up with it, but it bugs.

Re: String height

Some where around 4/64" (~1.6mm) at the 17th fret feels "right" to me on electrics. A little higher on the 7.5" radius board, maybe a touch lower for one guitar, but I now aim for that measurement then tweak from there a little higher or lower based on how the guitar feels.

You get use to it if you just stick with it, and when you do theres no going back ;)

Re: String height

Relief around .008" +/-. Action at 12th fret round 4.5/64" on the low E & 3.5/64" on the high E.

Re: String height

No idea. I go by feel and it's what's one could consider medium, I guess. But, since I play Metal it's probably considered to be high.

Be careful Crusty. In my quest for the lowest ever action my strings actually ended up on the back of the neck meaning I had to turn the guitar around to play it.

Re: String height

my number one les paul has a perfect setup to me. 2.1mm for the low E and 1.9mm for the high e, measured at the 12th fret. It's just wonderfully setup. My sunburst LP seems to have a bit of a neckangle issue and needs a new nut but the action is about 3mm, not too bad and it doesn't bother me.

3mm?

Re: String height

I end up right around 5/64 E, 4/64 e. 3mm is close to 8/64 (1/8") and that's a huge difference. Pretty darn high.

Graphtech recommends 3mm E , 2mm e in the instructions that come with their bridges. I have no idea why. Obviously, they don't need to be set up that way.
