"string-thru-body bridge" problem with my LG P90

I'm rehabbing my circa 2001 Godin LG P90 (I posted another thread last week about the wiring schematics). I finally got all the hardware and started rewiring when I noticed this.

wtf? Is this normal? Is this bad? Is this fixable? Should I care?

any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

im actually surprised godin dont make the guitars with top ferrules for the strings....or did you somehow take them out. If they dont come with it, then yes, i would say its totally normal. A string under tension is going to bite through the wood. Do you need to worry about it....im tempted to say no aside from asthetic values. It may cause some tuning issues due to the strings getting stuck in the wood but who knows.

Is it fixable...the only easy way i can think of is to check these out (top ferrules) and see if they might fit directly into the string through holes without any modification.

I had the same thing happening in my LG when I still had it. Don't worry about it, as I never had any problems with it. It doesn't really show when the strings are on, and has never made a difference with me.

Brilliant! Ferrules! Yeah, I can't believe that Godin didn't/doesn't have the common sense to put ferrules on this guitar. Moreover, I can't believe I didn't have the common sense to install any. Aesthetically, I don't really care too much about the cuts. I'm really just concerned about string issues, which in theory could be two-fold:
1. string becomes wedged and/or rests on a rough edge, promoting breakage
2. string continues to cut and cut over time, screwing up intonation & creating tuning issues

Whilst I'm bothering rehabbing this, I think I'll definitely find me some ferrules that fit.

Thanks, guys.

ya that is one of the only things i don't like about Godins string thru design... Some i've seen with cheap Ferrules on the top side that didn't hold and fell thru the hole... i've even seen a few that had some little steel tubes in them that had slipped down... i'm not sure if someone added them themself as it was a used guitar but there was these little steel tubes in there i guess acting as ferrules... But it didn't work... if it was my axe i'd for sure buy these top ferrules from Stewmac.
