hey,

i have a neck for a strat project thats been used slightly and it has 1 string tree hole which i have put a string tree in and it looks a bit off compared to my other strats.

do they need to be EXACTLY in the correct place?

where do they need to be to do there job?

thanks

If the string stays in the nut, then it works. :D

Seriously, if it is close to the factory location, then you are just fine.

Re: string trees position. does it need to be EXACT?

Some of the Telecasters had the string tree across from the A string's peg, and some of the earlier ones had it sort of across from the G string's peg.

I put together a couple where I put the string tree across from the D string, on a spacer. Seemed like a good plan because that puts it about in the middle, between the nut and the E string's tuner peg.

A lot of people say the location doesn't matter but the angle it holds down the B & E stings probably has an effect on how stretchy the strings are.

What Pete said...

As long as it's not pulling the strings side to side then front to back location doesn't matter too much.

Re: string trees position. does it need to be EXACT?

It won't really matter on a Strat, whereas for a Tele, having it nearer to the B and E tuning pegs makes it easier to do "behind the nut bends".

Re: string trees position. does it need to be EXACT?

ok great, so does it matter if the sstring is being pulled a little bit from either side?

i dont really want to have to refill that hole and drill another, but im putting my sperzels on it today hopefully so when theyre on i can put a test string in and see what angle the string sit.

if the strings are being pulle da little bit side to side what can that affect?
