Re: Strings

If you have a Floyd Rose or locking tailpiece, you can put the "round thing" at either end, but traditionally, the ball end goes at the tailpiece. Thread the other end through the hole in the tuning peg post and start to wind. I like to use as much of the string as I can to get at least 3 turns around the post. Does that help at all?

I just cut it off.

That is absolutely NOT how to string a floyd. The ball does not go into the locking saddles in the bridge. You need to cut the saddles off and insert the now plain end into the saddles and lock them down.

Alternatively, you can do what I do, and string them in backwards. First feed the string through the tuner, then through the locking nut, and then into the locking bridge saddle and clamp. Now tune up, lock the locking nut, and fine tune with the saddle tuners. You can either cut off the excess string that is hanging out of the headstock tuners, or you can leave it be. I take the excess string and weave it between the tuning knobs. Floyds usually have the strings break at the bridge. By leaving the excess string, I can unlock the nut and have enough string left over to thread into the locking bridge.

Re: Strings

Im lost, and i have no idea how floyd trems work at all. I dont even use my trem on my strat i find the dam bar takes it out of tune sooo fast.

Re: Strings

I believe there is one particular Floyd model where you can leave the ball end on the string and lock it in the saddle. But for 99% of the Floyd trems out there, you need to cut the ball end off. Some people string Floyd guitars backwards with the ball end at the tuner, because it makes it easier to unwind some of the string and clamp it back into the saddle if a string breaks at the bridge.
