stripping neck finish

Okay, so here's the deal. My number 1 these days is my carvin dc135 and I bought it as a young lad who didn't really know what he wanted, but I did it right except for the neck. I recently bought a dc727 with a tung oil neck and realized I really effed up on the dc135. I wanna strip the finish off the neck, it get's sticky when I play leads after a long session. I can't have that, I'm not a JYM or Petrucci by any means, but it does throw off my timing cuz I have to re-grip the neck.

How should I go about doing this? I know sandpaper, with gradual changes in grade and taping off the board works, but I want other ideas before I rape my fave axe.

Re: stripping neck finish

is it poly??

cause if it is, it makes me tired just thinking about it......

Re: stripping neck finish

if its a maple maple neck then i would advise sanding it. you really dont want to get stripper on the fretboard. if the fretboard isnt maple then you could use a heat gun, you just have to be careful not soften the glue that holds the board on

Re: stripping neck finish

Like JB said I would just use progressively finer grit sand paper or steel whool to smooth the finish and not remove it.

Yeah, the steel wool thing worked wonders for my schecter. Went from tacky to sublime in about 15 minutes.
