Strobe Tuners for intonation? (Peterson StroboFLip!)

hello,

I recently acquired a Peterson Strobo Flip and I'm not sure if it's what I need for my current situation. I'm setting up guitars, lots of them.. as I'm in the process of starting up a repair business. I have never owned a strobe tuner before but a friend gave me this one for a bargain (I think)

First off. I wanted a tuner best for setting intonation on instruments in the workshop.. From reviews the Strobo Flip is well regarded, but is their anything better out there more suitable for my needs? I like the fact this is small and portable so I don't have to leave it out near heavy object/tools/sharp objects! but as this model has been discontinued, does anyone think I might be better off trading this out for something else?

I only have experience with a Boss TU-3 so I'm guessing any strobe tuner will be better for setting intonation?

A real strobe tuner might be better but those are big $$$. The Peterson virtual strobe stuff like your flip is quite good.

IMO, the biggest problem in having a tech set up intonation is duplicating my touch and silly people who don't set intonation with the guitar in a real playing position (e.g. on its back). Either of those factors will make a bigger difference than using the "right" tuner.

Thanks! That's a clear indication that I was thinking way too much into this. I've never had a complaint about my setups to date so I must be doing something right! haha

I doubt I'd find a better virtual strobe for the current value of these.. so I'll probably keep it and use it up in the workshop, thanks!

I have a strobe stomp, its a pain for intonation at times. It jumps around alot

I've been using the Peterson strobe tuner since about 2001...The blue one that is small enough to throw in a bag and stand up on the amp...I also use a Snark SN-8 on the headstock to monitor my tunings while playing.

Not needed. Many guitars were intonated prior to the invention of the strobe tuner...

Not many - it's been around since the mid 30's.

I've owned the flip since they came out and I use it purely for my setups. I love it. Its faultless. Why don't you like it ?

I don't dislike it, but I was just handed this by a friend for a bargain price o wanted to see what peoples opinions are on a reasonably priced tuner mainly for intonating guitars/basses.

The reviews seemed to come up top for this turner, but as it's been discontinued I was wondering if there were any better alternatives I could swap this out for. I was offered £100 for this by a friend of a friend but I doubt for £100 I'd get anything much better.

I think it's pretty cool, and unless any other virtual strobe's would be better for use in a workshop I'll be keeping it

Def keep it. I like the sweetened tuning. Also using either the neck pickup or the bridge with the tone pot rolled down gives a better image for intonation. I didn't know they'd discontinued it. Shame.
