Stupid Deal of the Day - G&L

Re: Stupid Deal of the Day - G&L

That's a hell of a deal. I had the exact same model about 6 months back and still wish I had kept it.I was talking to a local dealer about them and he swears G&L kind of shot themselves in the foot by offering the Tributes at what was already a great price (550 ish). Says the sales of standard higher models have really taken a hit because of them.

Re: Stupid Deal of the Day - G&L

Amazing deal for someone looking for a great Tele. Those Tributes are nice guitars.

Re: Stupid Deal of the Day - G&L

If I didn't already have a guitar that was similar to that AND a recently acquired Strat I'd pick one up!

Re: Stupid Deal of the Day - G&L

I can appreciate the good deal and G&L’s craftsmanship ... but G&L is dfinitely locked in a 4-way tie for the worst headstocks ever designed! Tied with D’Angelico, Epiphone and Ibanez ... (those nasty huge jazz box headstocks are awful!)

I don’t have a problem with Ibanez, Epi, or G&L headstocks.
Hands down worst headstock award goes to Dean.

Dean is so bad at this, they've actually got two "recognizable" headstock designs and both are terrible.

Kramer and the hockey sticks is second. Ernie Ball, as functional as it is, is third for me. No issues with G&L or Epiphone here.

Re: Stupid Deal of the Day - G&L

Ha, I love the Ernie Ball headstocks. I see nothing wrong with G&L either. I don't like the D'Angelicos or Eastmans, though.

Re: Stupid Deal of the Day - G&L

I'm on the fence with Reverend. Their Strat headstock is beautiful, but their 3+3 design some days I love, some days I hate.

No matter what, their guitars look BADASS. I mean, come on:

That's just sick.

Re: Stupid Deal of the Day - G&L

That V hurts me. I don't like the headstock, either. But hey, I am used to no headstock!

Re: Stupid Deal of the Day - G&L

I'm all for good aesthetics, but if the guitar itself sounds and plays nice enough, then the headstock almost becomes a secondary consideration at that point. ;)

So, Joe, didja buy one?

Re: Stupid Deal of the Day - G&L

I didn’t mean to start something with my original headstock comment! However, I guess I must admit that I am a sucker for aesthetics. Yes, it’s gotta be a good guitar, but it can’t have a headstock that says “I’m an offbrand oddball” or “I wish I was a Fender”.

Re: Stupid Deal of the Day - G&L

Well, you do realize that Leo Fender designed that G&L headstock, right?

You do know that the original Music Man Sting Rays and Sabres, and G&Ls were designed and built by Leo Fender, right? He started those companies after he sold Fender to CBS, right?

So in reality...today's Fenders aren't really Fenders are they? Perhaps in name only. They're the copies, CLONES of the originals. Leo always said that the G&Ls were his best guitars, his best designs. All Leo Fender...not clones; certainly not copies. A modern Fender...THAT'S THE COPY!

So yeah, my G&Ls have a slight variation of the original Strat design. The Legacy has that little point, usually referred to as a "tit".

Yep...my guitars have ****! Do yours? Yeah, didn't think so...

;)

I've been saying for years that USA G&L guitars are the true descendants and heirs of the Fender name, as they have the DNA and lineage from CLF himself.

Fender makes good stuff, no doubt. But there's few guitars I like off the rack better than an ASAT Bluesboy.

Almost every G&L I've tried has felt excellent, even the import ones. Now I just got a Tele so that's done, but if not I'd probably have gone the G&L route.
Amazing guitars.
