Suddenly this pedal does not exist: Overdrive

Aceman

I am your doctor of love!
Well, you survived the disappearance of Chorus pretty easily. Let's give you a hard one this time. You wake one morning to find the Overdrives are all gone. Not gonna be so easy this time. TS9's, 808's, SD-1, Blues Drivers, and every other non "Distortion" box just doesn't exist and all the knowledge of humanity can't bring them back.

* Natural amp OD is fine. If your amp does that....well enough. For you.
** Straight up booster like MXR Micro Amp, Keeley Katana, etc is OK. Klon, RC Boosts, anything that adds grit itself is not.

How does this effect you?
Can you survive?
How do you get by?
Will you quit playing?
Can you go on?
What about that Fender amp???

Go!

I definitely couldn't live without a chorus, at all. As much as I love my TS7/9 Tube Screamer I could certainly get by without it. That's only because The Rat is my favorite OD/distortion box and that doesn't seem to fit in your category of "overdrive". So I'm good in this situation.

The Rat is a Distortion. Rock on! I bet we get a lot of "I'll use this distortion on low" responses. But hard core OD guys are effed.

right now., I'm using my EHX Allied Overdrive as my only gain source; with my 60w SS Carlsbro 2x8" combo. :) it's three transistor stages; and does a decent crunch. Or into fuzz territory with the mosFet boost switch/pot engaged! :o

:) But very sad, if I could not use it with the overdrive channel on my Blackstar; - it really gives it extra crunch, bite and distoriton. \m/

Right at this point in time both would be a pita, due to recent purchases. Chorus I could live without having a decent flanger available.

Nevertheless, having a good amp with nice sounding cleans and ods I could live perfectly well without od pedals.

If you're going to say that your embargo covers amp breakup too I'd start to wonder if I need to look for a new hobby:11:

Well, I am an Overdrive guy. Since the 5150 Overdrive might fall in to this category by name alone, I'd probably be looking at the Rat or a Big Muff of some sort. A compressor set a certain way can be a nice front-end push to an amp. An EP Booster and an EQ would do the job too.

My amp has the goods so using that I could live without an OD, and usually do. My DI pedalboard would need something like the aforementioned options.

This would mean, bye-bye Klon! Oh, those guys are gonna have a meltdown....LOL.

I'm fine. While I like a good OD pedal, at the end of the day two things:

I'm a distortion guy - so I don't care

The other, not bing an OD guy, I have never had an amp that I couldn't get a reasonable mid-level drive with. It's a pain on my Pro Jr. to do it quietly, but it can do it easily.

I stack mostly for at home entertainment value, so no loss there.

I could get by with my heavy channel on the DSL 20 or my Micro Dark and my volume knob. Not ideal, but I can make it work.

I mainly use OD/Distortion pedals for a different flavor occasionally but nothing hits like that heavy channel.

Question is invalid for bolded comment. The BD-2 is not (just) an overdrive. Anything over half on the gain knob ranges from distortion to fuzz.

The same way that I often get distortion and fuzz from my overdrive . . . my backup plan for no overdrive is to get overdrive from a fuzz or distortion. I think I could live with a Rat turned way down, or a fuzz face with my volume knob rolled way off (although the latter would require that I remove treble bleeds from all my guitars).

Ive got hot pickups, EQ pedal, some pre and a lot of post gain control on most pedals, and AMo channels and Stages.

I think separate OD pedal loss is the least of my concerns.

i could use a paladium or some other heavier dirt box, do i lose my fuzz pedals too? ive played plenty of gigs with just a sunface into a deluxe reverb. if i couldnt use any dirt boxes at all, id bring my tweed princeton clone with a 12" and use that as my dirty tone. guitar->a/b/y->deluxe reverb and princeton

A boost and a fuzz will do a whole lot!

Not all Fender amps are Twin Reverbs on 1.5. Anything from the Deluxe or Princeton range (tweed to Silverface) can get a nice breakup when the volume is high enough. A little boost or fuzz and I’d be happy! Of course you’ve got all the channel switchers as well. If you need to cut some flub, an EQ works too. No more SRV solo tones though.
