suggest me a good/clean solo boost pedal

I'm looking at a new tube amp (looking, because I ain't buying anytime soon)
but some of the mesas i like mainly because of their solo boost feature. Personally i think this is a killer idea. So, to even teh playing field, suggest me a solo boost pedal that I could put in front of any amp. thanks you amp junkies

Re: suggest me a good/clean solo boost pedal

i'll check that out
i've also been told to check out a simple EQ pedal (but that sounds like its gonna color the sound too much)

Re: suggest me a good/clean solo boost pedal

I heard good things about the MXR Micro Amp for clean boost, simple pedal, mine should be here in a few days. I know the Strokes use 'em (saw their pedals up close) and they have that solo boost that sounds like what I'm looking for with my Strat. They use small tube (Fender) amps like me too.

the MXR is a cool pedal. I used to use it, but it got stolen, so i replaced it with a Boss SD-1, I like that too.

the brian may amp has a boost feature, they look really really cool, and he has way cool tone

they are plenty of boutqiue boosts, analogman, fulltone both make em, and many others do as well

Re: suggest me a good/clean solo boost pedal

I just bought a pedal from Barber Electronics called the "Launch Pad". This is a super nice pedal, because it can be used in a variety of ways depending on what you want. It has one input, and two outputs (+ and -). The control knobs are + volume, - volume, and "sensitivity" (which is the clean boost).

One cool function of this pedal is to drive two amplifiers, or both channels of your fender amplifier (in the latter case, this pedal is key, because it puts the two channels back in phase with each other). When the pedal is bypassed, you just get in phase driving of both channels of the amp. When you turn on the pedal, you can use the two volume controls to adjust the balance between the two different channels (so you could, in effect, use this to function as an A/B between the vibrato and normal channels). The sensitivity control adds a clean boost when the pedal is on.

This pedal is especially cool, because (to my ear) I hear no coloring of the tone at all. If you set the boost so that you have no change in volume, you can turn the pedal on/off/on/off, etc., and you'd be hard-pressed to notice a difference.

Very nice.

I think the zvex super duper is an incredibly versitile clean boast.

The Bad Bob Booster by RGW Electronics (available from Tonefactor and AnalogMan) is an excellent clean boost at a decent price. It is based on the same circuit as the Fulltone Fat Boost (Jack Orman's mini-booster), but has a simpler, cleaner design. It had better true-bypass and AC operation, and slightly less noise than a Fulltone Fat Boost I tested for a weekend. The Bad Bob has plenty of boost on tap, and seems to add a nice bit of presence to the sound. You should note that the effect of a boost pedal is very dependent on your amp -- it will simply boost a clean tube amp that has plenty of headroom, but it will push a nearly saturated tube amp on the verge of OD into full-blown creamy OD.

There are lots of other options out there, as well as subtle differences between JFET-based pedals (Bad Bob, Fat Boost -- they add a touch of grit) and MOSFET-based pedals (ZVEX SHO, Chile Picoso -- they are super clean). Check out the link below for more info and some reviews.

the duncan pup booster works very well. a nice clean, uncolored boost with the res switch is the off postion. the only trick is that any of these pedals will give you a good volume boost on the clean channel, but on the overdrive channel, youll get some extra volume but mostly just more gain. if you get an amp that has a foot switchable parallel fx loop you can use that for a volume boost

I haven't tried the Duncan Pickup Booster yet...it's probably great. I've always used the Boss DS-1 set to about 1/2 way and then I can go from clean to scream with just my guitar's volume control. If I'm using a DS-1, I tend to just set it up and leave it on all the time...the clean tones are excellant for rock n roll. I just lower my Tele or Strat's volume to 1/2 way or a little less and it cleans right up. Lew

+1...great pedal!

Oh yeah, and Analogman is a pleasure to deal with.
